I have heard that the immediate removal of the cast off your nose is approximately what your nose would look like. Apparently, some time after the cast removal the swelling goes back up. Is this true? I recently had my cast removed and immediately hated the results--it looked too small, defined and fake. I am very worried since swelling makes structures larger.
Answer: Will my rhinoplasty results be evident when the splint/cast is first removed ? You will have a general idea of how your nose looks after the rhinoplasty when the cast/splint is removed. However, the appearance of your nose when the splint is first removed may be influenced by pressure from the splint itself. Therefore, don't rush to judgement over the initial appearance. What may look small or fake at first glance often looks much better as the healing progresses. Be reassured, be patient, and good luck.

Answer: Swelling after splint removal Once your splint is removed, you are able to get a general idea of what your nose will look like. That being said, you will have a degree of swelling after surgery that can affect the appearance. In addition, once the splint is removed the swelling can even increase a bit more as there is no longer compression being applied. I recommend you allow some time for the swelling to resolve as it can take 6-12 months after surgery. If you have concerns, you should discuss with your surgeon.

Answer: Cast removal After the cast is removed, the general shape of your nose should approximate what your Dr. and you discussed, and hopefully visualized with computer imaging. Of course the overall appearance will be bigger because of the swelling. If there is a wide disparity between your actual and predicted result, your nose will not morph to what you expected.

Answer: One week rhinoplasty results... When the dressings are first removed, the nose often appears turned up due to the effects of the bandage and swelling of the tissues. Therefore, the patient who expects to see a perfectly shaped nose as soon as the dressings are removed may suffer keen disappointment. Some additional swelling disappears within 3 or 4 days after removal of the bandage, and the nose begins to resemble its eventual shape. The average acquaintance met on the street would probably not notice any swelling. At around 2 weeks, around 70-80% of swelling is resolved and at 2 months 80-90% of swelling is typically resolved. It generally takes at least one year for the last bit of swelling to disappear; this does not usually bother the patient nor distract from the appearance of the nose. Rather, the elements of the nose seem to have improved “definition” as the last bit of swelling subsides. This is especially true in the tip of the nose. The bottom line is to try to exercise some patience -- time is on your side. Good luck with the rest of your recovery.

Answer: Rhinoplasty after splint removal It is difficult to say without viewing photos - but expect your nasal shape to change significantly as the swelling subsides. Often times the area below the tip can be very swollen and give the illusion that the nose is over rotated (over-done). Additionally, even with a fantastic result - it can take time until you are used to your new nose. Try to hang in there and allow the swelling to resolve. I do not typically judge results until at least 6 months from the procedure. Good luck!!
