I have heard that the immediate removal of the cast off your nose is approximately what your nose would look like. Apparently, some time after the cast removal the swelling goes back up. Is this true? I recently had my cast removed and immediately hated the results--it looked too small, defined and fake. I am very worried since swelling makes structures larger.

Answer: One week rhinoplasty results... When the dressings are first removed, the nose often appears turned up due to the effects of the bandage and swelling of the tissues. Therefore, the patient who expects to see a perfectly shaped nose as soon as the dressings are removed may suffer keen disappointment. Some additional swelling disappears within 3 or 4 days after removal of the bandage, and the nose begins to resemble its eventual shape. The average acquaintance met on the street would probably not notice any swelling. At around 2 weeks, around 70-80% of swelling is resolved and at 2 months 80-90% of swelling is typically resolved. It generally takes at least one year for the last bit of swelling to disappear; this does not usually bother the patient nor distract from the appearance of the nose. Rather, the elements of the nose seem to have improved “definition” as the last bit of swelling subsides. This is especially true in the tip of the nose. The bottom line is to try to exercise some patience -- time is on your side. Good luck with the rest of your recovery.

Answer: Rhinoplasty after splint removal It is difficult to say without viewing photos - but expect your nasal shape to change significantly as the swelling subsides. Often times the area below the tip can be very swollen and give the illusion that the nose is over rotated (over-done). Additionally, even with a fantastic result - it can take time until you are used to your new nose. Try to hang in there and allow the swelling to resolve. I do not typically judge results until at least 6 months from the procedure. Good luck!!
