After removal of the silicone Nasal implant the nose skin can start redraping and shrinking. It becomes very difficult to perform augmentation afterwards. The sooner you can get it revised the better.RegardsDr. J
If you just had your implant removed, then you should wait a good 6 months or longer to have a revision. Best of luck.
It is best to wait at least one year to allow full healing to take effect before undergoing a revision rhinoplasty procedure. At 4 weeks the nose is still changing shape after the L-shaped silicone nasal implant has been removed.
Hi, I have performed and taught Rhinoplasty for 30 years. The rule of thumb is to wait 6 months for the tissues to properly heal and for the blood supply to re-establish before having a revision Rhinoplasty. I have seen numerous patients that had L-shaped silastic dorsal implants placed elsewhere. If the nasal dorsum looked good, I remove the vertical (short portion) of the implant and repair the nasal cartilages using a conchal cartilage ear graft. The rest of the implant can remain in place.
Hi,There are various opinions amongst surgeons about time for revision rhinoplasty. I believe each case is different depending on circumstances. In your case, as long as the nasal tissue swelling has subsided, the 4 to 6 month period is adequate to pursue a revision.Best,Dr.S.
Placement of spreader grafts does widen the midportion of the nose. Spreader grafts are placed underneath a concave upper lateral cartilage to widen that area and improve air flow dynamics through the nose at the nasal valve. The thickness of the grafts can be anywhere from 1-3 mm...
Thank you for your question and revision rhinoplasty should rarely take over three hours even if cartilage from a rib needs to be harvested.Dr. Corbin
The length of a nose (distance between radix and tip, this is the dorsum) is conditioned by the nasal structures, from top to bottom: nasal bones (hard nasal wall) >>> upper lateral cartilages (soft nasal wall) >>> the tip tripod: lateral cruras, medial cruras and septum; may one or more of the...
Dear viking92, A septal graft is my most preferred graft. In my thirty years of practice I have found a septal graft to be the most consistent in its stability. Speak with your surgeon to discuss your concerns so you have a full understanding of the procedure. Best regards, Michael V....
Placing a cartilage graft along the bridge line does not make the nose stronger or more resilient to a fracture. It simply builds up the existing bridge line. Cartilage grafts do feel natural and they integrate in with the existing cartilage and bone. The grafts are always custom carved...
I am not aware of surgeons in the USA injecting fine pieces of cartilage to correct surface irregularities. I have had good success with fat grafting to correct minor irregularities, which I prefer to filler because it is long lasting. Conceptually the idea is interesting of injecting...
