First of all, DON"T FREAK OUT !!! Not that you would be so many hysterical patients go nuts if they get a little bruise or swelling after fillers or botox. It is normal and it will happen even in the best of hands. There are hundreds of tiny vessels in the skin and every needle stick pierces several. Some will leak and some won't as much. It has more to do with if you have drank alcohol or taken aspirin or advil in the last 5 days than having anything to do with the doc's technique. Ice and arnica under the tongue or arnica cream are your best friends.
Swelling and/or bruising can last for 1-2 weeks after fillers. Icing, arnica, cold compresses and VBeam treatments can help give improvement. Best, Dr. Emer
Dear Slightone,I often recommend my patients to use ice packs to reduce swelling. But every plastic surgeon has his own postoperative protocol which he recommends to his patients. I would suggest you to discuss this with your plastic surgeon.Daniel Barrett, MD, MHA, MS Certified, American Board of Plastic Surgery Member, Am. Society of Plastic Surgery
I would recommend using ice packs on and off for the first few days to help with bruising and swelling after fillers to the face. Some doctors feel that Arnica can help as well. I would speak with the physician who treated you to see if they have any other specific recommendations.
Unfortunately bruising and/or swelling are always a possibility with fillers. Certain areas of the face such as the tear troughs and lips and even Marionette lines bruise more than other areas. If you're on blood thinners such as aspirin or advil, or drink alcohol, green tea, etc, you're more prone to bruising. Ideally no big workout after a filler injection for at least 24hrs, and better yet 48hrs. Your dermatologist can laser the bruise to make it go away faster. For both swelling and bruising, consider an ice pack on & off in the first 24hrs, and you can even try an antihistamine to reduce swelling. Sleeping on your back, especially with an extra pillow if possible, helps reduce swelling. Also, avoid jacuzzi, sauna and steam rooms in the first 48hrs.
Thank you for your question. I recommend to my patients ice packs and Arnica for a few days post-treatment. We also will have patients use our LED Red Light Therapy in conjunction with laser to heal bruising and swelling faster. These are wonderful treatments to help with your concerns. Best, Dr.Bloch
