Which kind of surgeon should I find for sliding genioplasty? I have a weak chin.

Today, a sliding genioplasty can be performed in the office with intravenous sedation and does not require hospitalization. The amount of advancement or reduction is pre-determined and a small bone plate is used to achieve the desired results. I find that a genioplasty tends to provide a truly natural result. However, silicone chin implants are an acceptable alternative.

As a plastic surgeon I can tell you that the plastic surgeons in my area do not commonly perform sliding genioplasty.  In this area that would be done by an Oral-Maxillofacial Surgeon (dental sub-specialist).  Before you undergo that procedure, I would recommend you also consider consultation with an experienced board-certified plastic surgeon in your area to discuss the option of chin implant (augmentation genioplasty).  You may learn important information that allows you to consider chin implant as a preferred option.  The consult would't obligate you to have any procedure, but would provide you the opportunity for in-person examination and experienced advice, to assist you in your final decision.  

This is an excellent question, and one that is commonly asked by my patients. It really depends on the individual surgeon's training and experience. For example, in my area several other plastic surgeons refer to my office for sliding genioplasties simply because they do not perform them and it is one of the most common procedures I do on a weekly basis. I would suggest going to two or three consultations and determine which surgeon you feel the most comfortable with!
