What brand do you recommend in your practice for silicone scar sheets or gel for a columella incision? Also when do you advise patients to start?
Answer: What brand of silicone scar gels or sheets are best for rhinoplasty scars? As a co-author of Scars and Scar Revision in Reoperative Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, my research reinforced what we have known for years: Scarring is a product of genetics. Some people are good scar formers, and others are poorer scar formers. No particular scar treatment is better than another. I advise that scars not be exposed to sunlight for the first year due to risk for hyperpigmentation. Silicone sheets, Mederma, and Biocorneum are reasonable and popular options. I recommend that the scar therapy begin after the scars have healed and there are no open areas, which usually takes 4 to 6 weeks.

Answer: Apply Plato's scar serum twice daily Our treatments use combination therapy to improve the epidermis and dermis for most deep scars. The options available for acne scars depend on the character of your scars, in terms of topography and contour. We see atrophic and hypertrophic acne scars, as well as scars that have hypo and hyperpigmentation. We begin each scar evaluation with an assessment of scar quality and subtype. Our main concern is rebuilding collagen and that is why we use a HIDEF protocol that includes combination therapy. Morpheus 8, scar subcision, fibrous release, fractional laser, CO2 laser, Thulium laser, PDL Vbeam laser, and fractional resurfacing can be used in addition to TCA Cross and chemical peels to further improve skin. Patients should start Melarase AM and Melarase PM for active hyperpigmentation. Always begin with a consultation to decide whether early subcision should be started. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Realself100 Surgeon

Answer: Scar Dear b4n28, I understand you are concerned with the appearance of your scars. As your scars heal, it should flatten out and lighten. Loss of pigmentation or hyperpigmentation may also be experienced but will resolve over time. Always follow your surgeon's post operative care instructions when it comes to scar management to avoid any complications like infection and for faster healing and recovery.
