I am 5'4 and weight 130 pounds, I recently went to a consultation for breast augmentation. I would like to be a D. I am now a 34 A. The Doctor advised 475 cc's would look good. I will be getting the implants underneath the muscle. moderate plus was suggested by the Doctor. I am wondering if 475 cc's is too big? I want my breast to look natural. I was told since If I get 475 cc's, my breast will look as if I got 450 cc's since I will be getting my implants underneath the muscle.

Thanks you for your question.There are number of factors that are used to determine breast implant size. The dimensions of your breast including breast width are important factors in choosing a breast implant size. However,  based on the information you have given I would think that a 475 cc implant would be too big for you. I recommend you see a specialist plastic surgeon in your area who will be able to guide you and use a sizing kit to help you get a idea of what a 475 will look like.Best wishes Vij Vijayasekaran

It is difficult to tell without seeing your pictures.  Generally speaking a 475 cc implant will get a petite frame into the D cup range.  And yes the larger implants will look somewhat smaller once they are inside of your body. The important factors for implant volume decision are the size of the footprint of your breast and the amount of tissue you have to cover the implant particularly laterally - on the side.  These factors should be explained to you by your surgeon.  Good luck!

Thank you for your question. It is much better to accurately discuss implant volume and projection with an in office exam and detailed measurements. In order to make an accurate size recommendation, I would need to assess your chest wall and breast mound measurements/characteristics. I use these measurements to help me during the sizing process to guide you to a safe result for your chest wall and just as important, one that meets your end desires.The next step is to try on this range of implants in the office with your doctor. The key to this success is showing your surgeon the body proportion you desire with a bra sizer and allowing your surgeon to guide you to the right implant. It will be much easier to communicate in implant cc's than cup size when determining the appropriate implant for you during the sizing process. In addition, review of photos and use of rice bags can be very helpful to the patient and surgeon in achieving a safe and happy result. Without photos and breast measurements, this is not possible to answer in a useful way. The quoted size would require a breast width of 14 cm, which may be more than I would expect given your height and weight. It might be helpful for you to try on size implants to help choose a size.  But it is possible that your goal cannot be met in a way that will result in a natural looking breast. All the best.

In terms of breast implant sizing, there are several factors that plastic surgeons consider when recommending implant sizes. I consider two factors when selecting implants for my patients:

1. Dimensional planning
2. Gel Implant Sizing system

Dimensional planning – The measurements of your chest wall are taken. Also, the breast dimensions including the height, width, and current dimensions of each breast form the basis of dimensional planning. Based on these measurements, the implant size is recommended. This will give you a unique breast implant that is suited for your body frame. However, there are some limitations of what size we can recommend. For instance, some implants may just be too big for a narrow chest wall. Your surgeon can review this with you during the consultation.

Gel Implant Sizing system – During the preliminary breast implant consultation, you will be provided with an option to “try on” a variety of implant shapes and sizes. You can also visualize the possible outcomes of your surgery which helps you to get that perfect size to give you the shape that you longed for. This way your preferences are known and you can then pick a range of implants that will “fit” just right to give a soft natural fuller look. Hope this helps.

Breast augmentation is a very personal procedure. The size and style of the implant will depend greatly on the individuals' chest and breast diameters. This should be discussed in detail with your surgeon if you're unsure of the final outcome. It is always best to bring a picture of what you would like to look like afterwards to help make that final decision. You should never have surgery before you feel comfortable that the surgeon understands your desires prior to the surgery. Implants almost always look better underneath the muscle, therefore this is correct placement in today's age of breast implants. However it will make the implants look slightly smaller that what you try on in the office. Good luck

There is not much of a difference between a 475 and 450cc implant.  In general you will go up one cup size for every 200 ccs of implant volume.
