Are there any programs that help with the removal of excess skin? (Photo)

I've lost over 100lbs and have excess skin. I've tried different types of creams and lotions that claim to tighten the skin, but it seems like that isn't working. Are there any programs or services that could help with the aid of skin removal?

Sadly, the only way to remove excess skin is with surgery. If a board certified plastic surgeon is out of your price range, you might want to call medical schools in your area and see if they have a "resident's clinic".

Lots of loose skin

Congratulations on your weight loss success!

Unfortunately, the only proven way to significantly tighten loose skin is to undergo surgery.  There are no creams or lotions for this - so save your money, and just use a moisturizer.

You may wish to contact a university-training program in plastic surgery:  perhaps they might have a residents' clinic where lower-cost surgical options would be available?

About a Mommy Makeover after Extreme Weight Loss

Congratulations on your weight loss success! It is best to undergo #MommyMakeover procedures when your weight has been stable for at least one year. The Mommy Makeover is a combination of procedures to bring a woman’s body back to the way she looked prior to pregnancy. Most commonly some variation of a #TummyTuck and #BreastSurgery are performed. Additional procedures can include liposuction, umbilical hernia repair.  The most common #breastprocedures include #mastopexy or #breastlift, #breastaugmentation, or #breastreduction.

In addition to a one-on-one consultations with a board certified Plastic Surgeon, patients always need to be seen by their primary care doctor prior to such procedures.  We screen every patient and their medical records for risks of blood clots (DVT) and then take appropriate measures.  MWL (massive weight loss patients of  75 lbs or more) tend to have poor skin elasticity and will frequently need additional tightening even afte 6 -12 months regardless of who or how their surgery is performed. This is simply the nature of such body tissues and the ability to heal with the lack or limited elasticity.

The costs of a #Mommy Makeover will depend on several factors. Such include the geographic location, the skill and experience of the surgeon, and operating room and anesthesia fees.  Also, such #combined operations are often performed with our Gynecology colleagues. Tubal ligation is a common post pregnancy procedure which is done at the time of many of the surgeries included with Mommy Makeovers. Therefore, if you require a gynecologic operation or study (laparoscopy) and are considering a plastic surgery procedure, discuss these issues with your doctor. Combining these procedures decreases anesthetics, costs, and recovery time.

Thank you for your question and congratulations on your weight loss. Surgical excision is the only way to treat the excess skin. University Hospitals with Plastic Surgery Resident Training Programs often offer discounted cosmetic surgery through the Resident's Clinic. You should call your local hospitals to see what is available. Hope this helps and good luck.

Congratulations on your successful weight loss venture.
Please don't waste your money on creams, lotions or magic potions. Only a full TT will successfully create better contour and skin draping for your degree of skin excess.
Best wishes to you,

Hello,

Thank you for your question.

Congratulations on your weight loss! Based on your goals, you may want to consider a full abdominoplasty. I'd recommend booking a consultation with a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon to determine what your options would be.

Take care.

Thank you for asking about your weight loss surgery.
  • Congratulations on losing so much weight.
  • You will have excess skin and non-surgical treatments will not tighten it.
  • The skin ha stretched permanently.
  • You should get an excellent result with surgery - either an extended tummy tuck or a lower body lift.
  • A consultation with a plastic surgeon will explain all that is involved.
  • Patients who have these operations after massive weight loss are almost always very happy with results.
  • Always see a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.
Hope you find this information helpful. Best wishes.

Thank you for your question and for sharing your photograph.  Congratulations on the amazing weight loss!  Unfortunately there are not any topical treatments that will shrink or tighten your abdominal skin, as the tissue has been stretched too far.  The only way at removal is through a full tummy tuck surgery.  Hope that this helps.

I agree with all my colleagues, the best treatment is with surgery. It is a process to be sure, but your excellent progress thus far makes the reward all the better! Get a surgeon with whom you are comfortable. Best wishes!

Congratulations on your weight loss. Unfortunately nothing short of a tummy tuck to remove the excess skin is going to help. The only way to know for sure is to book a consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon near you to see what your options are. Best of luck!
