What procedures are available to close my navel piercing and how long is the healing process from those procedures?

I've had my belly button pierced for the last 6 years. Occasionally, it gets red and irritated. I would like it to close but since i've had it for so long i'm aware that won't happen. What procedures are available to get this done?
