Congratulations on your decision to proceed with breast reduction surgery; this operation tends to be one of the most patient pleasing operations we perform. Unfortunately, your plastic surgeon ( and online consultants) will not be able to predict, with any degree of certainty, what cup size you will end up wearing after the breast reduction procedure. In other words, there is no accurate/specific correlation between amount of tissue removed and resulting cup sizes. Most patients undergoing breast reduction surgery wish to achieve a enough of a reduction to help with their symptoms while remaining proportionate with the remainder of their torso. With the goal of improving communication with my patients (determining their goals in regards to breast size after breast reduction surgery) I find the use of photographs of “goal” pictures (and breasts that are too big or too small) very helpful. I have found that the use of words such as “natural” or “B, C, or D cup” etc. means different things to different people and therefore prove unhelpful. Also, as you know, cup size varies depending on who makes the bra; therefore, discussing desired cup size may also be inaccurate. I hope this, and the attached link (dedicated to breast reduction surgery concerns), helps. Best wishes.
I never guarantee bra size after any breast surgery because bras are all over the place. The best way to visualize how big your breasts will be after surgery is to take either a 500 cc breast implant or 500 cc of rice in a baggie and hold it up to your breast. Do a mental subtraction to visualize your resultant breast size. Another way of getting an idea of your post op size is to go online and find someone who looks a lot like you with breast size, height, weight etc who has had about 500 cc of breast tissue removed. Breast reduction is a great operation and most patients are pleased even if the bra size they were shooting for was not achieved.
Usually after any surgical procedure that is multiple hours requiring general anesthesia and IV fluids, there can be a few pound weight gain as well as "water retention". As long as you are healthy, you will shed the water and pounds by a week or so. If this does not happen then you...
First get your benefits dept. to check if breast reduction is a covered service. If so, you need documentation of failure of conservative treatment to resolve back and neck pain caused by having large breasts. most people take pain meds, use custom bras, and fail to respond to physical therapy.
