Should Morpheous8 be painful? What could be causing pain?

I had Morhpeus8 on my abdomen today. The pain was horrendous. I couldn't complete the procedure. I had abdominal lipo wiht bodytite 4 months ago and my doctor said perhaps its too soon after the lipo. I also have MS. I have a high pain tolerance. I've had botox for 20 years, filler, breast augmentation 3 times, lipo so understand pain. They numbed me wiht cream one hour prior. Any ideas anyone? I really want to get this done to help the lumpiness I have from lipo. I am also 50

Hi Kris. Thank you for your question about Morpheus 8 and pain associated with the procedure. I would see what strength of numbing cream they used on you. A few ways to help minimize the pain moving forward is: after 30 minutes of numbing, ask your practitioner to apply another layer of numbing on top; ask if they offer ProNox (which is nitrous oxide and helps take the edge off); take Tylenol or ask to be prescribed a stronger pain killer to take 20 minutes before the procedure.

Thanks for your inquiry,  a few suggestions include asking your surgeon to prescribe a Valium to relax you-you will need someone to drive you home.  Also in our practice we use Nitrous Oxide to help with pain.  Finally, ask if the energy levels can be decreased slightly--hope that helps.

Thank you for your question.  I’m sorry to hear Morpheus on your abdomen was so painful.  The Morpheus 8 body hand piece and 40 pin tip are stronger.  They are able to go to depths of 7-8 mm with a much higher energy than the face hand piece.  As a result, patients may feel pain and may require other methods for pain control. Numbing with topical numbing cream does help, but only for the most superficial layers of the skin.  Some practices can inject a tumescent like numbing fluid similar to what is used for liposuction, but in a much smaller amount.  Other practices use laughing gas (nitrous oxide) for pain control.  Both methods may be used together is some instances.  Check with your provider and see if any of these methods are available to you.  Good luck!
