Dysport Bruising Under Eye Normal? (photo)

Question

I normally have 3 areas of my face injected with Dysport. This includes an injection under each eye and on both sides of my nose. During my recent visit I was shocked to receive a dreadful bruise under one eye. My specialist realised he'd bruised me and inquired as to whether I was taking fish oil tablets or aspirin to which I replied I wasn't. I was wondering if the under eye area is prone to bruising due to too many blood vessels? Also I have more lines now on my nose. Is this normal?

It is not normal as it is considered a minor complication. The area around the eyes contain lots of blood vessels that you can't see so there is a higher bleeding rate.

As you mentioned, the under eye area is more prone to bruising than other treatment areas because the skin is so thin and vascular in this area. Any unfortunate vessel that is injured during the injection will show up as a bruise. There are little things you can do to minimize the risk of bruising with further treatments such as avoiding medications and foods that thin the blood at least a week prior to treatment, using Arnica/Bromalin, and holding pressure at the injection sites immediately after treatment to stop any bleeding before it has a chance to turn into a bruise.

Of all the areas of the face that are treated cosmetically, the eye area is probably one of the areas to get the most bruising. This is because there can be superficial blood vessels there as well as having thin skin in that area. I can't really comment on the lines on your nose without knowing exactly where the Dysport was placed and how much was used. It is possible that you may have some swelling from the bruise that could influence the lines temporarily.

Bruising is always a risk and especially around the eye area.  It is unfortunate but can happen.  You may just need more Dysport to soften the remaining wrinkles.  Don't give up on the Dysport, this does not mean it does not work anymore for you.

the skin under the eye is extremely thin, and the blood vessels are quite fine and close to the surface of the skin, so bruising can be seen in this area. As for the lines on the nose, do you mean that you feel as though you have more wrinkles there than before the treatment? It takes 7-10 days to see the effects of Botox or Dysport. Given the extent of your bruising in your photo, I'm guessing that you were injected relatively recently? Give it some time to see the effect near your nose.

I'm assuming from your description and your photo you were being treated for something called a "bunny" nose. This requires injections into spots that do tend to have a higher propensity for bruising. The under eye area is extremely thin skinned and has many shallow vessels so it can commonly become bruised. In your photo you're not squishing your face so I can't see any nose lines, but just know it can take up to 10 days for the full effects to kick in.
