Will the nasal tip drop dramatically after cast removal? (Photo)

Question

I received septorhinoplasty to correct my breathing and also to get rid of a large bump I had on my nose, it's the 5th day of recovery and I've noticed my nose is ridiculously turned up? Now I know it's supposed to drop some more over the next 2 weeks and then even more until 12 months but I find the angle that it's sitting at really concerning and I can't imagine it dropping as much as I'd like it to. My surgeon said he'd lift the tip a bit but I was not expecting this outcome. Will it drop?

The tip of your nose will drop as time goes on.  He will have entered the most difficult part of your recovery.  You are feeling better and are looking at your nose frequently, but your nose does not look like it's going to when things are all done. it's really hard, but you need to be patient, remember why you chose the surgeon you chose in the first place and continue to trust them. If you liked your surgeon's before and after pictures of previous patients, you will very likely be happy with your results.  Hang in there.

Dear Nose Dilemma,There is no need to worry at this point.  After surgery, the nose is taped and splinted to reduce swelling.  Over the course of a week, the tissues outside of the cast, and the areas that were not taped, swell more in proportion to those areas that are taped and splinted.  This can cause an artificial lift in the tip of the nose.  Once the cast comes off, and the tape comes off, the swelling will change locations and over time, the tip should drop. You will not be able to BEGIN to judge the final appearance of your nose for AT LEAST 6 weeks after the cast is removed.Hang tight!  It should be alright!Best,Dr. Michelle Yagoda
