On the left side of my nose I have a soft 'lump' which is not very noticeable but I am able to feel it. It is not inside the nose but rather under the skin. I had also had a nose piercing at the age of 18 (I am now 42). The right side of my nose is flat and straight, whereas the other side is 'swollen'.

Answer: I have a lump on the side of my nose. Is my nose just asymmetrical or could I have nasal cancer?
Nostril asymmetry is the norm. If the nostril asymmetry is not apparent on frontal view it may not be worth correcting.Kenneth Hughes, MDLos Angeles, CA
It is much too early in the healing process to make any assessments. I have seen patients have moderate asymmetry of the nostrils and nasal base at this point in the healing who go on to have very nice results. Some of this may be due to asymmetrical swelling. Give it some time. Happy healing.
Most people with nasal bumps notice they develop during their pubertal growth spurt so you situation is really quite typical. I like to wait until that growth is completed before performing a rhinoplasty, so the youngest age for rhinoplasty is about 16 years of age.
