Non absorbable suture line left in and causing irritation. Does it need to be removed? (Photo)

If the suture is starting to poke through and cause inflammation it should be removed.  This can usually be done pretty easily in the office.  If not removed it may not be able to heal correctly.  

Hello kavyklanSutures are removed in 1-2 weeks, patients can return to work before they are removed. I  would dvice you visit or contact your plastic surgeon about this concern.

Thank you for your question. Non-absorbable sutures are typically not preferred when possible, but do not tend to create any healing discomfort for patients. I suggest that you move forward for suture removal with your board certified facial plastic surgeon.

Yes, the inflamed suture should be removed.  This should be easily done in the office under local anesthesia.

This is a no brainer. Go see your surgeon and have him remove the offending stitch. It will just get worse and lead to healing issues.

Thanks for your question. It is true that the suture you describe usually does fine without irritation. That being said if it is causing a suture abscess or creating issues it would be best to remove. I would call your surgeon and discuss with him/her further. Hi  Thank you for your question.  The suture can be removed very easily with a local anesthetic right in the office.  Because it is inflamed and abscessed it should be removed and I am sure your surgeon would agree.  You can actually see it through your skin which means it is close to the surface and it should not be a painful or long process.  Good luck!
