Hello doctors! After my first microneedling session earlier this year, I have been in lust! To date, they've been pretty good until - now. What was planned to be my final session for some time, has my skin in the worst condition. I had a microneedling session that was by far questionable. I kept asking if the pen was even touching my face. I followed all the same post op steps. What do you think happened?
Answer: Possible skin reaction to topical serum. Thank you for your question and I am sorry you are experiencing complications after your last treatment. With only images to go by and without knowing whether you had a topical serum with your treatment or other factors, it is difficult to assess exactly what is going on with your skin. However, I do recommend you see a plastic surgeon or dermatologist as soon as possible for an in-person examination. It is possible your skin reacted to a topical serum that was used or that you developed an infection after the procedure. Prompt treatment will ensure your skin is managed properly so that residual effects do not linger. Good luck!

Answer: Microneedling after care--add skincare, prp, lasers I recommend following up with your Doctor for results and after care recommendations. I find adding PRP decreases redness more quickly and we like to do microneedling with lasers to get better outcomes. Best, Dr. Emer

Answer: Microneedling complications It appears you either have an inflammatory reaction to a topical used during the microneedling procedure, or an infection. Although extremely safe and well tolerated, medical grade microneedling is still that - a medical procedure with risks. The most common side effect or risk (albeit quite low) reported in literature is infection. For this reason it is imperative that the face be cleaned with antiseptic (alcohol or betadine) prior to treatment. In addition, small granulomas have been reported when the treatment has been performed with different serums that have ingredients in high concentration, one of them being Vitamin C. My recommendation is to see a specialist, either a dermatologist or someone with experience in microneedling) to be evaluated. At a minimum you should start oral antibiotics to treat any possible infection. I'm sure all will work out just fine in the end but good luck!

Answer: Infection after microneedling The people who perform microneedling are often not fully aware of sterile technique. I'm surprised infections don't happen more often. If the skin isn't sterilized properly, infection can enter through the holes/channels made. Also, the topicals applied can cause a reaction/granuloma if they are dirty or the wrong ones are used. This needs to be seen by a dermatologist and start on topical +/- oral antibiotics. This is one of the reasons there are some states putting regulations on this procedure.
