Hate how my face looks after sliding genioplasty. Would a revision make me look how I used to? (photos)

I had a 4mm sliding genioplasty 2 months ago. I don't like how my entire face looks now. My lower lip is thinner, my face is longer, and my smile lines are so much deeper now. I look so old now but I'm only 19. I am still numb on my chin and still cannot talk or smile properly. Would a revision help? I just want my old face back

Yes, it is possible to reverse the genioplasty and move your chin back to its' original position. A 4 mm advancement is so minimal that I am not sure that you had any cosmetic change.It has been shown that a less than 5 mm advancement does not have any significant effect on the soft tissue of the chin. In other words, there is no cosmetic benefit. Your profile is pleasing in the photos. I would recommend chin and jawline liposuction to give you a youthful well contoured appearance. Good luck

I agree that soft tissue changes although subtle will still be expected over the next 4-6 months and in general you do not want to be premature to assess your final results until then.  It is true that your photos are not consistent which makes it difficult to objectively assess your changes.  Additionally the frontal and three quarter views are also very important to assess the 3 dimensional changes of your surgery especially since your observations refer to what you see while looking at yourself in the frontal view.  It will be an option to reverse your changes to your original state however if you are patient, you just might find that giving it the time recommended will reveal a pleasant outcome. These two sets of photos don't give an accurate comparison.  Both photos should be sitting up with neck straight. An osseous genioplasty takes months to heal completely.  You are still very soon out.  It takes 4-6 months for the edema in the jowls and submentum to go down.  Wait at least 6 months before you judge the result.  It will keep improving!Best of luckDr Rodman

why did you post your after pictures with a completely flexed neck?  That's pretty much comparing apples and oranges don't you think?  I suggest reposting with after pictures taken it as nicely as your before picture.  I agree with what's been said. Reversing the sliding genioplasty will probably restore soft tissue changes but will probably not change the numbness though that should improve on its own.  Best, Mats Hagstrom MD
