Can fillers be used on top of an existing implant? (Photo)

Question

I had a chin augmentation done about a year ago. The plastic surgeon did an amazing job in giving a natural look. However, due to my incorrect bite, I feel like I still need more projection. I don't want to replace the implant, will fillers give me the additional projection? Your answers are much appreciated.

Hi.  The options for more projection in your case are either surgical (larger implant or genioplasty) or use of fillers.  Voluma or Perlane are reasonable choices for this application.  As mentioned earlier, careful technique is required to avoid infection and damage to the implant.  Unfortunately, these are not permanent, and will require on-going maintenance.

Volumetric fillers can be easily injected on top of an existing chin implant. Options include a hyaluronic acid based filler like Juvederm, Voluma or Perlane, as well as a biostimulator such as Sculptra. These would provide an effective and easy solution for added projection to an implant which would be an in-office procedure.

The short is answer is yes. I prefer either Juvederm Voluma or Radiesse for that type of chin injection on top of an existing implant. The risk is infection. That risk can be minimized by very careful technique and preparation of  your skin. If you want to go that route find a plastic surgeon injector who understands both the fillers and the implant procedure and the risks of the treatment that you're seeking. I agree with you that you need more projection to your chin.  Your chin should project more.  If you place your finger from your lips straight down, your chin should almost touch your finger.  Yours is behind.  A larger chin implant will project the chin forward to better balance the lower half of your face.  Yes, you can have fillers on top of the existing implant, but a new implant would be permanent.
