The dark pigmentation that you are seeing may not even be discoloration of the skin. It is possible that the darkness is simply a shadow cast by the smile lines, which filler will certainly improve. If it is a pigmentation issue, then a treatment such as Fraxel laser may help as it is designed to improve pigmentation and sun damage on superficial layers of the skin.
