How long should I avoid sun exposure after AviClear for optimal results?

Like all other types of lasers, Aviclear causes a thermal and/or mechanical reaction in the skin's deep tissues (in this case, the oil glands). As a result, sun exposure following treatment may intensify the reaction and deepen the skin's inflammation, ultimately leading to hyperpigmentation or darkness on the skin.
Nevertheless, after the first few hours following the treatment, Aviclear won't cause your skin to get red or irritated on the surface. It is thus advised that you may resume your regular activities the next day, although you will always need to wear a generous amount of sunscreen when you are outside.

AviClear is a laser treatment and with all laser treatments, sun exposure should be minimalized throughout the whole treatment. After any laser treatments, redness, swelling, and sensitivity may occur, prolonged sun exposure may cause pigmentation changes. If your job does not allow you to work away from long sun exposures, I would recommend a wide brim sun hat that is UPF 50+ with a strict regimen of application of mineral sunscreen SPF 30+ every 2 hours.

It is very important that you stay away as much as possible from direct sun exposure, such as tanning or staying under the sun for long periods of time without protection. This treatment will make you skin very sensitive and drier than usual, so staying hydrated is key. In our office we recommend all our patients a clarifying kit that contains face wash and hydrating serum.
