How long do I have to avoid sun exposure after Fraxel 1550?

I’ve read from other RealSelf answers that you should avoid sun exposure up to 6 months after Fraxel and other answers that say 2-4 weeks should be sufficient. What is the general rule for sun exposure after Fraxel for different skin types? What about RF microneedling, like Infini?

I I tell all my patients to avoid direct sun exposure for 2-4 weeks for nonablative and 3-6 months for ablative lasering.  You put yourself at risk for scar and pigmentation changes.  Best, Dr. Emer. I recommend following up with your Doctor about after care and sun protection recommendations. We use a specific protocol of exfoliation, hydration, and moisturizing along with sun protection after laser treatments. PDT therapy can calm any inflammation. I always combine lasers with microneedling/prp to get more of an outcome. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Fraxel makes the skin very vulnerable to sun damage, which is why it is critical to avoid direct sun exposure for an extended period after this treatment. The amount of time you wait can vary based on your skin tone and sensitivity, as well as the depth of your treatment. I would say avoid sun exposure for at least 2 weeks after your procedure, and then you can use sunscreen and hats after 2 weeks when you are in the sun. Of course, it is always best to wear sunscreen to prevent damage and early signs of aging. Hope this helps!

In our practice rule of thumb is 2-4 weeks post treatment minimal sun exposure for prolonged periods of time.We also advise to use at least an SPF of 45 with Zinc and Titanium Dioxide in it daily regardless of your outdoor activities. Same goes for RF microneedling. Treatments are done every 4 weeks so in reality that would be staying out of the sun for 3-4 months.

You should always wear SPF 30 or higher with zinc oxide to protect your skin. UVA & UVB rays break down collagen so you want to protect your investment. If planning a sunny vacation, pack a large brimmed hat, SPF 30, and sun protection clothing. Do outdoor activities before 10 am or after 4 pm when the sun's rays are less direct.
