What is the difference between Mentor Memory Gel smooth round implants and Mentor Memory Gel Xtra smooth round implants?

Both implants are excellent implants. The memory gel xtra feels firmer than the regular silicone implants. Nicknames for these implants include gummy bear implants. I’ve been told that when men and women physicians and nonphysicians feel the different implants in a blind study, that most people prefer the softer implants. Patients who are nervous that they may get rippling after surgery will prefer memory gel xtra. When one takes the shell off the memory gel xtra, the silicone holds its shape. Thank you for a great question. The new Mentor Xtra silicon gel implants have more fill volume inside the implant shell then standard memory gel breast implants. This increase in fill volume causes the breast implant to project more and the outer surface of the implant stays smooth and full and does not collapse as can happen with other implants. This translates to more projection of the breast, more fullness above the nipple areola and I have found them useful in patients who have sagging breasts but do not want a breast lift.
