Hi doctors, I was just wondering will the result of using ear cartillage for tip projection in asian rhinoplasty be permanent? Also would the tip begin to droop with time and would the cartillage resorb. Thanks!

Answer: Ear Cartilage Grafts The cartilage grafts (ear or costal cartiage) used in all rhinoplasty operations, not only in Asian rhinoplasty operations, vary according to the technique used, but the ear cartilages that have not undergone any procedure and whose perichondrium is preserved do not resorb, but their resistance may decrease according to the thickness of the cartilage, each cartilage graft used may be resorbed. There is, but it is low. Conditions such as personnel, diabetes, smoking, etc. can increase the resorption of cartilages. Although there are risks, the 2 grafts that can be used most safely are costal and ear cartilage grafts.Cemal Haci, MD, Otorhinolaryngology, Istanbul/Turkey Chatzi Clinic.
