How much of vellus hair shedding is normal?

In a day I shed about 3 hairs in a shed of 30-40 a day, these are super thin, almost like dog fuzz at times and super short. It's always around that number even if the total shed increases. There's always around 3-5 of these super thin hairs, and the length is about 2 cm or less.

You need a formal evaluation to see what type of hair loss you may have. when you have hairless its best to do a full hormonal workup for internal optimization plus scalp biopsies or scrapings to rule out any stress related, inflammatory, autoimmune or infectious causes of hair loss. There are multiple sources in the hair literature which explains that all adults male and female will loose about 100 hair per day and if they are in equilibrium regrow 100 hair/day. The hair goes into resting phase (telogen effluvium) for about 3 months and then regrows for 4-7 years and goes through the same process again. 
Most people with full heads of hair will \have about 80,000 - 120,000 hairs on their head !!
Of course there is cause for concern when there is imbalance to this equilibrium.

Provided telogen vellus proportions are less than 10 % it would be considered fairly normal for most people. Telogen vellus hairs are part of the normal scalp.
