Hello, I have a history of an idiopathic orbital pseudo tumor in my left eye at age 8. My left upper eyelid muscles have been impacted ever since; I am unable to fully shut my eye without squeezing super tight and I have lagopthalmos on the downward gaze. My levator muscle is scarred. My whole life I have been told that there is nothing that can be down to ‘fix’ my eyelid, but the cosmetic aspect is weighing on me. Is there any procedure that can be done to elevate my eyelid without further restricting my ability to blink and close my eye? The diagnosis I was given is called mechanical ptosis.

It is impossible to be definitive without a in person detailed assessment. The orbital inflammation can cause orbital scaring that compromises tissue. Corticosteroids are used for the treatment of orbital inflammation and can cause loss of fat volume. To successfully repair ptosis, you generally need at least 10-12 mm of levator excursion and excursion of greater than 14 mm. Your left upper eyelid is less full than the right side. An actual examination would assess how much preaponeurotic fat is present in the upper the lid. At the end of such a detailed assessment, it would be possible to discuss your options.
