There is, I'm afraid, absolutely no evidence that homeopathic doses of Arnica have any effect on bruising and certainly not in the type of surgery you're talking about. Having said that, there is no evidence it does any harm, so, if you want to take it, I would be surprised if your surgeon had a problem with it. You're considering taking anything, the most important advice is to discuss it with your surgical team.
Arnica is used to help reduce bruising. It doesn't really address recovery in terms of improved healing or comfort. I would recommend a healthy balanced diet rich in proteins. Any supplements or medications should be discussed with your surgeon.
Arnica Montana is a homeopathic remedy known to help minimize the ampount of bruising after surgery. There is really no real scientific proof that using this over the counter supplement is effective. It certainly won't hurt you to take it. It is uncertain that it will help.
Many of my patients ask about taking supplements before and after surgery that might help their recovery. Unfortunately for all of us, there does not seem to be any "magic pill" that does just that - at least not yet. As far as what is available to us now, arnica does seem to help some patients reduce the amount of bruising and swelling they experience after surgery. However, some patients also see no benefit at all from taking arnica. If my patients ask if they can take arnica, I let them know that I think it is safe to use - scientific studies have shown no significant harm - but that it is up to them, and they might not see any effect.Hope this helps, and best of luck,Dr. Lim
Hi thereTracey,We get asked about medications all the time that supposedly help with healing.Sadly none of them actually have been proven to make a difference. If they had then we would all be using them trust me!!Arnica itself is harmless. If you want to take it, just check with your surgeon first and make sure they don't have an objection. The reality is some people bruise and some don't. Either way, it will not make any long term difference.Best wishes for your surgery.Richard
For an elective cosmetic surgery, I would not recommend surgery for that length of time. Most plastic surgeons limit surgery to around 6 hours to limit risks. It would be safer for you to stage your surgeries into 2 or 3 different operations. Discuss with your plastic surgeon your options...
Safety is always the number one priority in any surgery. Before proceeding with elective procedures it is important that you are healthy and have received clearance from your specialist for any medical concerns. I encourage you to speak to your hematologist about your desire for a Mommy M...
I recommend a breast lift for BMI’s under 32. The higher the BMI, the higher risk for complications. I recommend The Bellesoma Method to reshape your breast tissue creating upper pole fullness without implants, elevate them higher on the chest wall and more medial to increase your cleavage. V...
