Swollen spots under eyes, who to see? Could Rogaine have caused them? (Photo)

Question

5- 6 months have had swollen looking lumps, slightly discolored yellow or reddish pockets or areas under eyes on top of cheekbones. Sometimes eyes seem swollen. They seem worse in last few weeks. Online research says they might be malar bags? I don't drink alcohol or caffeine or suntan. I have been on Rogaine 5% Women's for 7 months for FPHL. Read can cause reactions or collagen breakdown. Should I see a derm or gp? Could Rogaine have caused them? Never had them before and am 44.

It is unlikely that Rogaine caused this. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist. A combination of fillers, lasers and microneedling/prp may give improvement. Best, Dr. Emer

It is highly unlikely that the swelling under your eyes is related to Minoxidil use. While it is possible to have an allergic reaction, it occurs when the solution comes in contact with the skin. You should have an examination with either a dermatologist or a facial plastic surgeon for evaluation for the swelling under your eyes.

There are too many possible diagnoses to give you an accurate idea of what is causing this from an online assessment.  Definitely see a dermatologist and you can always try stopping the Rogaine for at least a full month to see if it resolves.  Good Luck!
