Will spider veins go away after I stop taking birth control pills? (Photo)

Question

it has been 3 years since I begin taking BCP. Now I have 21 and decided to stop taking them because of the side effects, so I will try another BC method without hormones. Since I ve started taking them I have had frequent headeaches, celullite appeared along with some spiders veins like I show in the pictures. I would like to know if the visible veins and celullite will goa way after I stop taking the pills. Also, I think I have more visible veins in my foot than what I used to, why could it be?

Thank you for your question.Multiple risk factors predispose patients to spider and reticular veins and varicose veins ... including genetic risk, occupations with long hours of sitting and standing, giving birth to children where there is excess hormone production and volume overload in the body, the mechanical effects of the growing fetus in the 2nd and third trimesters; lack of exercise or activity, being overweight, use of birth control pills, etc. BCP increase risk of deep vein thrombosis slightly increase risk of developing spider, reticular and varicose veins in population studies.

The spider veins may go away but most likely you will need sclerotherapy to have them go completely. Keep in mind birth control is a risk factor for developing them but they are most strongly associated with a genetic risk (meaning it's in your DNA) Therefor, you may develop them even off the medication. There is a relationship between spider veins and both hormones and oral birth control pills.  It is not possible to say if the veins that you have will resolve on cessation of the birth control pills. The best thing to do is to see what happens when you stoop the birth control pills.  You should see a vein specialist for your veins.
