I’m 20 years old and thinking about having a hair transplant in a few years, my hairline isn’t currently receding and I don’t have a family history of baldness, however, I have always had a very large natural forehead which really exposes my temples. I was wondering if I would be eligible for a hair transplant to get a better head of hair? Or do I have to be balding to be considered?
Answer: Recommend forehead reduction If the size of your forehead is what is bothering you, you may be a good candidate for forehead reduction surgery where the hairline is lowered. It is best to wait until your late 20s or early 30s to have a hair transplant. The reason for this is that your hair loss pattern isn’t stabilized until your 30s. Additionally, a hair transplant done too early may look unnatural. Also, after a forehead reduction you can still get a hair transplant if you have hair loss when you get older.

Answer: Hair transplantation before balding Hi There, This is a great question. Hair transplantation can be a tailored procedure for many people. It can be used to recreate a hairline, increase scalp hair volume, increase eyebrow volume, and even beards. Although we can't predict the future completely, based on your history, it does not seem that you will have significant hair loss. Typically, age 20 is young for a hair transplant, but that is usually the case in patients who will continue to lose hair in the future. I think it is reasonable to have hair transplants placed to modify your hairline given your specific scenario. However, the most important thing is to be evaluated by an experienced hair restoration surgeon to make sure that the hairline you want is reasonable and natural. In addition, the hair restoration surgeon would be able to determine whether placing grafts the temporal area is feasible given the type of hair and volume you have in the remainder of your scalp. Hope that helps!

Answer: Hair transplants at 20 You need to be extremely careful. A transplant at 20 is risky - always. If you bald in the future - you will have tufts if transplanted hair in the front and nothing behind that (which will look abnormal). Meet with an experienced surgeon to review your family history. He or she can follow your hairline over many years and guide you when this might be considered (if at all). There are plenty of patients with poor outcomes from transplanting the temples too early. Even if you don’t feel it - you and your surgeons need to assume you will bald in the future. You need to plan for the best case scenario and worse case scenario over the next 40 years. That’s a long time so get goo advice from an experienced surgeon.
