Hello, I'm in my 20's and I've started to notice some fine nasolabial folds that weren't there before. I recently lost some weight and also fixed my teeth (I had veneers added to my upper teeth and they somewhat affected the way my mouth looks). Since I'm still young and the lines are not that deep, I was looking to avoid fillers and some other invasive or surgical treatments. Are there any options for a case like mine?
Answer: I assume you have tried a good facial moisturize and prescription Retin A. Those are the simple things. You are missing some perioral volume in the nasolabial fold and even in the lip edge. I would encourage you to consider hyaluronic acid filler for these area. The treatment is an office service that is very comfortable. It lasts about a year or more. Less is more. Find a very experienced injector for this type of service.

Answer: A great option to treat this would be doing Venus Viva RF or Morpheus8 Our office has many different treatments for scars depending on the depth of atrophy or hypertrophy. Scars require a combination approach using our HI DEF protocol which uses a combination of lasers, topical scar modulation, and RF treatments to pixelate scars, improve contour, reduce hyperpigmentation, and improve the visibility of the scars so that they are no longer visible in ambient light. Everyone has a unique pattern of scarring and we employ our HIDEF technique to improve texture, color, contour, and topography. We often use a combination of treatments that begin with a careful examination to examine the micro texturing of the acne scars. Atrophic scars and indented scars can benefit from injectable fillers such as Radiesse, Sculptra, and Restylane with or without subcision to remove tethered scars and atrophic depression. Hyper-redness in scars can be improved with V beam laser, Excel V, BBL, IPL, and Venus RF to improve the redness and reduce the visibility of deep scars. Fractional Thulium laser and clear & brilliant can also reduce the inflammation and redness of the scar when combined with topical therapy. Fractional lasers such as Fraxel, erbium, and CO2 laser can be combined with radio frequency and also fractional RF to improve textual issues and microtopography. Subcision and TCA cross are also used for deep ice pick scars and narrow valley scars in order to improve the micro texture. Above all, our combination approach with our clinical nurses and board-certified plastic surgeons can improve the quality of your skin by using at home Melarase creams combined with PRP treatments in our office to improve your skin quality and tone. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with an experienced team of experts in order to reduce your scarring. Finally, hyperpigmentation of scars can be improved with at-home Melarase AM, Melarase PM, and Melapads to help reduce active PIH and melanin deposition. Best, Dr. Karamanoukian Realself100 Surgeon

Answer: Improved skincare as alternative to fillers for nasolabial folds in younger patient Your nasolabial folds are very mild as would be expected in a young patient like you. Remember, it is normal to have some nasolabial fold and not having it would look artificial. That being said, what I think you can do is focus on your skin. Apply sun protection daily. Consider adding an antioxidant and a retinoid (such as Retin-A, Tazorac, or a retinol by a reputable company such as SkinMedica or SkinCeuticals) to your topical skin regimen. I would avoid sun exposure. Try to exfoliate 2 times a week. Maybe consider microneedling, a series of superficial chemical peels, or a laser resurfacing treatment to improve overall tone and texture of your skin,

Answer: Very mild NLF Thank you for your question. It is normal to have some demarcation in the nasolabial fold area. If you look closely at childrens' faces you will learn that many of them have it too. If it bothers you, and you are not interested in injectable fillers, then perhaps try a really good skin regimen. You might look into a hyaluronic acid product to plump the skin. I do not believe that you'll get a dramatic change unless you opt for injectable fillers. But, I don't think you need it. Be well-

Answer: Nasolabial folds While fillers can work well to add volume to the nasolabial folds, a young person such as yourself can also get some benefit by improving skin quality. I recommend meeting with a dermatologist or plastic surgeon to discuss options such as retinols/ tretinoins (topical vitamin A derivative that regulates skin exfoliation) and resurfacing (microneedling, lasers, peels, etc.). It's a very good idea to optimize the appearance of your skin and keep it looking its healthiest and best with regular sunblock use, healthy diet, good hydration, and other great skin habits. Good luck!
