What is the difference between composite bonding and composite veneers?

Question

I really want to lengthen my top two teeth as I've had to have them filed down to fix chips and uneven lengths. I think they're too short now. What is the difference between these two procedures and which one is more recommended? My teeth aren't WAY too short, I'd only need a little bit of length added. They're also healthy and in good condition so I don't really want to get veneers yet when I absolutely don't have to.

Composite veneers cover the entire surface of the fronting and edge of your teeth.  These can be done free hand directly built up on your teeth in Office or more precisely lab fabricated as one unit per tooth. “bonding” typically only adds to a part of your teeth free handed directly in Office.  This allows for a demarcation between the natural tooth and bonded aspect of tooth on the front visible facing of the tooth over time.  A more cosmetic and long term option would be porcelain or ceramic veneers. As these have greater aesthetic value in shape, color and stability.

Hi:In terms of the material they are both the same.  However, composite veneer covers the entire surface of the tooth but bonding normally covers part of the tooth.  Since you want to add length to your teeth, composite veneer is the way to go, however, since composite is not a strong material at some point you should consider porcelain veneers for best result.Best,Dr. Maddahi

Composite bonding is when the dentist builds structure and form to a limited portion of a tooth using composite resin a while you are in the chair. Composite veneers are when the dentist uses composite resin to cover the entire facial surface of the tooth and requires drilling away a portion of the enamel.  Composite only lasts a few years before it chips, breaks and stains. In the event that veneers are done, it is much better and much more strong and esthetic to use porcelain which takes two appointments, and these are made indirectly on a model at a dental lab. The real question is a matter of direct vs indirect.  Something bonded on the first visit, or something bonded after impressions and a lab creating the restoration.  Both may work, but if adding JUST the tip of tooth, the material will not stay put.  Indirect is better, but the overall look and durability is best with porcelain, not composite.  I personally would not suggest composite
