Do nostrils still shrink after closed rhinoplasty?

Question

Do nostrils still shrink after closed rhinoplasty? All the photos my surgeons showed were still on the operating table and everyones nostrils were super huge, prbably because of all the tools being inserted, but after how long will they shrink again? I want my nnstrills a lot shorter, mnot narower, shorter. I hav no idea what the end result is going to ne because my surgeon doesnt do 3d models to not make expectations that cant be met but now he doesnt know my wishes. Shall i just trust him?

Hello Opti,
Nostrils generally remain the same size after closed rhinoplasty unless the surgeon has actively tried to change the shape, either larger with grafting or smaller with nostril alar rim reduction.  It is very important that your rhinoplasty surgeon and you are on the same "wave length" regarding your aesthetic rhinoplasty goals.  I recommend holding off on surgery until the patient feels comfortable with their surgeon and the plan to change their nose.  Good luck and be well.

It would be very difficult to give you satisfactory answer without in person evaluation or, at least, series of good photos. Rhinoplasty includes multiple steps, including management of the nostril shape and size. In person consultation with a board certified plastic surgeon, expert in rhinoplasty is recommended. Some offices with busy rhinoplasty practice will also have 3D simulation software which may give you an idea what to expect. Good luck.

That’s possible. I perform closed rhinoplasty and have never seen stretched out nostrils after surgery. However if the nostrils are overly large there is a simple way to reduce them called alarplasty

Alarplasty: A nostril tuck or “alarplasty“ can be done to make the nostrils narrower in width, or shorter in length, depending on what the goal is.
