Question

I broke my nose when I was about 13 years old I’m 33 now… Lately I have been having a lot of sensitivity to the bump on my nose.. and really bad allergies (I’m not sure if this is due to the hump) The bump is very pointy Will my insurance cover to shave it down?

Insurance questions are best addressed with your insurance agent. However, generally speaking insurance does not cover Cosmetic procedures.

Thank you for your question. Since rhinoplasty is considered a cosmetic procedure and not deemed medically necessary, they are generally not covered by insurance. You may be interested in nonsurgical rhinoplasty that uses hyaluronic acid dermal fillers to reshape the nose at a lower price point than surgery. Keep in mind this approach produces temporary results, so you will need to repeat your treatments regularly to maintain the improvement.

I recommend scheduling an appointment with a physician regarding your nose sensitivity and allergy concerns, as well as an in-person consultation with an experienced, board-certified facial plastic surgeon. They will be able to assess your needs on a more individual basis and develop the best course of action.

Insurance companies typically will consider your situation to be cosmetic in most cases. A lot depends on your insurance company  but don’t count on it.
