How would the hump removal affect the front view of my nose?

Thank you for your question.  Dorsal hump removal can be performed for patients with wide or narrow noses.  The nasal bones constitute the upper third of the nose.  When a medium to large dorsal hump is taken down, there is an open roof that usually needs to be closed.  Think of this as the top of a triangle.  You removed the top because the triangle was too tall.  If your nose is very narrow, you likely mean that the base is narrow.  Once you perform osteotomies, your surgeon can angle the nasal bones (sides of the pyramid) to close the top of the triangle without narrowing the base.  In fact, he can even widen the base if needed.  If you have chosen a skilled rhinoplasty specialist, relax and trust that he will have considered your anatomy and has a plan to give you the nose you discussed in your consultation.  Nothing sounds out of the ordinary from what you described. Generally, hump reduction/removal will result in an open roof deformity.  Not only will this feel abnormal, it may have a higher chance of unfavorable frontal view since it will look wide.  The bones usually must be medicalized (pushed together) to correct this open roof deformity.  It is unlikely to make your narrow nose look even more narrow.  A good rhinoplasty should result in correction of the deformity as well as attain a look that is in balance with your face.  Feeling nervous before surgery is very normal.  Rhinoplasty is an elective surgery and I trust your surgeon would not have recommended this if he/she did not feel it would achieve your desired goals.  Make sure you ask your surgeon any last minute questions when you see him/her on day of surgery, or call the office before surgery.  While it's common to be anxious before surgery, it's critical you feel comfortable with your surgeon and trust him/her.
