Answer: Microneedling is great As with all cosmetic procedures, microneedling with devices such as Dermapen (which is under FDA scrutiny right now for misbranding – time will tell if it is something serious that will effect its sales) are still cosmetic procedures and need to be done by fully trained individuals under the auspices of a physician. In many instances, we have seen these microneedling pens being performed at spas and salons by people that have no experience or training in cosmetic procedures. On occasion, problems like you are describing have come to my office for me to examine, treat, and fix. Microneedling is great – and there are many devices that are doing well, sticking within the rules of the FDA, and not promoting them for what they are not. Consult with a board-certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon, get your problem solved, and let them help you with a skin care routine and treatment plan that is sound and supervised. And while some promote needling with PRP, there have never been any scientific peer-reviewed clinical studies that these do anything for the skin post needling. There is a whole world of things that are being used and touted post-needling – these need to be under the auspices of a board-certified doc and they need to have actual medical literature to back up any specific claims, which very few have and many of us are working on to be published in the future.

Answer: Rare, but possible It's very unusual for the skin to stay red for that long after a microneedling treatment. If the marks are flat, or slightly raised, red dots and aren't raised and infected looking they should subside on their own. Topical creams such as arnica or hydrocortisone often speed up the process. Should they worsen or not respond to the topical treatments in a few days, you should visit your Doctor.

Answer: Persistent redness after micro-needling I firmly believe that to get the best results with the fastest healing times, medical micro-needling must be combined with the application of human growth factor serums at the time of the treatment. Human growth factors are predominantly responsible for orchestrating and regulating cellular function and repair after injury. In my office, we use the ProCell Therapies system which combines motorized micro-needling with concentrated human growth factor serums made from stem cells from human bone marrow. All signs of inflammation are typically gone within one to three days after the treatment.
