Unsightly veins on breast post-augmentation - Is sclerotherapy for the breasts the best option?

Hello, I've read that seeing unsightly veins on the surface of the breast is quite common post breast-augmentation when there is minimal natural tissue coverage. Personally, I know one of my colleagues who had this issue after getting implants, even though she went with a smaller implant. She just had nearly no tissue. How are such cosmetic issues post-augmentation resolved? Is sclerotherapy for the breasts the best option or what would plastic surgeons recommend? Thank you

It really depends on which veins  that have become enlarged.  I've done 100's of breast reductions and I have seen those vessels in larger breasts easily; on a smaller breasted woman, those vessels are there also- just more difficult to see.  With breast augmentation,  those vessels can become a more visible in the early course.  In 18 years of practice and 1000's of breast augmentations, those vessels do return to their proportional size and I've never needed to treat them.  Small broken capillaries may become more visible as well and those we treat with sclerotherapy or with laser.   I hope that helps.  Best Wishes!!

While increased visibility of underlying veins after breast augmentation can occur, it is most common from those who select large implants or those with very thin skin.  Depending on the situation sclerotherapy or laser treatments may be helpful in minimizing the appearance.  It would be decided on a case by case basis.

I am not a fan of removing perfectly good veins, but sclerotherapy or laser treatments are available to minimize veins.  If you do this, be at least 6 months out from the breast surgery and go to a vein clinic that does a lot of veins.
