Allergic to Hylase - What are my best options to remove a ball of filler on my lip? (photos)

Question

I got lip filler injected on the 2nd of Sep, got a big ball of filler on bottom lip, tried to get it dissolved on the 9th of Sep . She said it probably is too soon to inject hylase but did.She injected 0.1 ml of hylase and she started freaking out as it blew up big (photos). She said I was having an allergic reaction. She said never again can I get fillers or dissolve it. Then did patch test and redness left circle a bit. What can I do to get rid of it. Please help I can't go on with it .

Dermal filler injections typically last about 8-12 months in the lip. If you're unhappy with your results and had an allergy to hyaluronidase, then consider injections with 5/FU steroids that may help give improvement. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a facial sculpting expert to determine the best treatments.  Best, Dr. Emer

Filler migration, swelling, and granulomas can cause significant discomfort and cosmetic ramifications. Our office specializes in the use of enzymes and filler reversal techniques without hyaluronidase to help improve the results of botched cosmetic fillers, whether caused by Juvederm, Restylane, or foreign fillers. Our plastic surgery institute provides expertise in filler removal. We begin by examining the facial fillers and assessing the likelihood of fluctuance or liquid volumization. If appropriate, we use Hylenex, or other filler reversal agents to reduce swelling and filler migration. Hylenex can be targeted into the areas of concern using multiple layered injection techniques. If the filler does not completely resolve, then additional concentrations may be employed. The technique has the potential to reduce the filler and may slightly impact normal hyaluronic acid. Treatments are repeated and results can improve immediately and with time.

Dear slinky 2008,
I’m concerned that your injector is not experienced or knowledgeable . I think based on your photo you should have been encouraged to wait because it is very common to get lip swelling after lip injections. It’s unlikely that your injector put a large volume of filler in just the one area.Also it is very typical of hyalase to cause more swelling. It’s very odd that as you say “she started freaking out” this does not sound like a skilled professional. The presence of redness on an intradermal test (patch tests to not breach the skin, so if it was injected it was an intradermal test) of hyalase does not necessarily indicate allergy. There is a lot more to it.I think it best you do your research and find a reputable medical clinic with an experienced medical injector. Remember that you are paying for the skill and knowledge of your injector, not simply the product itself. I wish you the very best,Dr Maeve Kenningham
