Lat Flap reconstruction home care. How do I sleep with wounds on my front and back?

The previous expander placement failed on the radiated breast. Now lay flap planned. Home care was horribly painful after last surgery. Especially getting up. Planning on using the recliner this time. How will I stay comfortable and mobile when I get home?

Your concerns are completely understandable. Latissimus dorsi flap is a major intervention with both back and chest wall issues. However healing for most patients is good. After surgery you may be kept in hospital for flap monitoring and to make sure you are safe. Thereafter you are sent home. Using comfort pillow and lying in you most comfortable position is important.Few other aspects to alleviate discomfort:-Taking all prescribed medications for pain and anti inflammatory medications-Sports bra to provide best support day and night-Physiotherapy of the shoulder to avoid stiffness-Gentle mobilization-Drains need to be secured and monitored carefullyI use Arnica tablets for my patients to reduce bruising and i do believe it aids in recovery.The first few days are difficult but you should rapidly improve if you are otherwise healthy.
