Would a sliding genioplasty benefit my side profile? (Photos)

I’ve been told that I have a large nose and I’ve heard that by getting a procedure that projects the chin forward can make the nose look smaller. Would I be better off with a genioplasty, chin implant, or nothing at all?

Based on your profile photo, I would say no. Your side profile looks good as it is. You appear to have good chin projection, good lower facial height, and good support of the lower lip. Just as important, your nose and chin seem to work well together, which is a big part of an attractive profile.

It is true that moving the chin forward can sometimes make the nose look less prominent. That is most helpful when a person has a weak or recessed chin. In your case, I do not see a clear chin deficiency from this view. Because of that, adding more chin projection with a sliding genioplasty or an implant could throw off the balance you already have.

A good facial profile is not based on one feature alone. It depends on harmony between the forehead, nose, lips, chin, and neck. Reviews on chin analysis note that chin surgery is best used when there is true deficiency, asymmetry, or misalignment, not simply because someone has been told their nose looks large.

So, between genioplasty, a chin implant, or nothing at all, my opinion from these photos is that nothing is likely the best choice. Surgery should improve balance, not chase a problem that may not really be there. If your concern remains mostly about the nose, that is a separate question and would need its own careful analysis in person.

It would still be worthwhile to have an in-person visit with a board-certified plastic surgeon or facial plastic surgeon if you want a full profile analysis, but based on these photos alone, I would not recommend sliding genioplasty.
