Genioplasty involves reshaping the chin bone—either to make it slimmer, longer, or more projected forward. This can be done through sliding genioplasty (where the bone is cut and repositioned) or shaving-type contouring. In terms of recovery, square jaw (mandibular angle) surgery typically involves the masseter muscle and affects chewing function more directly, so jaw movement, chewing, and speaking can be more restricted during the healing period. However, if you're only undergoing genioplasty (especially without jaw angle reduction), speaking and eating are generally easier during recovery. That said, swelling and bruising around the lower face and chin are expected, and it will take some time for these to gradually improve. Stitches inside the mouth are usually removed about two weeks after surgery. For a safer and more comfortable recovery, we recommend eating soft, easily digestible foods for at least one week after the procedure.
