Answer: 14 years old and needs a breast reduction That is great that your Mom is supportive and will look into it. Seeing a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon that specializes in breast reduction would be of great benefit to you both to find out what your options are at this time. 14 is a bit young but not unheard of, insurance companies usually will not cover until you have finished maturing as it is possible that your breasts may continue to grow and another reduction may be needed in the future. Good luck.

Answer: Breast Reduction at 14?
I'm sorry to hear about the problems you have experienced because of your disproportionately large breasts.
It is possible that you are dealing with juvenile breast hypertrophy along with the physical and psychosocial consequences of this diagnosis. In other words, the breasts are too large for your frame causing both physical and psychological distress.
It will probably be in your best interests to undergo breast reduction surgery in a few years when your breasts have reached a stable state. However, it is not too early at this point to learn more about breast reduction surgery ( pros and cons).
As you think about breast reduction surgery make sure you do your homework and understand the potential risks and complications associated with the procedure. Unsatisfactory scarring is one of the potential complications. Make sure you also understand that further surgery may be necessary in the future (for example if the breasts were to grow in size again).
On the other hand, breast reduction surgery is one of the most patient pleasing operations we perform and I think that for the right teenager (enough symptoms) it may be an excellent option (regardless of the age).
I am glad you have your mother's support as you go through this difficult time.
Best wishes.

Answer: Breast Reduction in a 14 year old
Unlike breast augmentation, which would very rarely be appropriate in a 14 year old due to the potential for ongoing breast enlargement and maturation, a breast reduction is sometimes an excellent option even for younger patients such as yourself. If your weight is appropriate, it's not likely that your breasts will decrease in size on their own. If anything, they may get even bigger. Having the surgery now can help you to feel and look better, and to be more active with your cheerleading and other activities. Since you may not be fully mature physically, there is always the possibility that you may need revision surgery in the future if things change. The other key is whether you're mature enough intellectually and emotionally to understand what you're getting into, the scars you'll have, etc. I suggest that you and your mother visit one or more board certified plastic surgeons to discuss this further.

Answer: Can a 14 y/o have a reduction?
Most certainly if your conditions are right and you are willing to accept the risks that are inherent with the procedure such as inability to breast feed, scarring, and loss of sensation or even nipple death, in addition to the likelihood you may need this again as your breasts may continue to grow. See a local surgeon for advice and a thorough examination, then you can decide if its really worth it or not.
