Q: Will hair transplanted to the other areas fall out too if I go bald?
Answered by Dr. MontagueApril 3, 2024

A: Thanks for the question. If I understand your question right, you're asking if you transplant into your eyebrows or beard will those transplanted hairs fall out as time passes and you potentially bald. The answer is no. If done properly the new hairs that get placed into your beard or eyebrow should be coming from the occipital part of the head or nape of the neck area. These hairs retain their genetic makeup and theoretically should never fall out. That is one of the beauties of hair transplant in general. When we transplant to the top of the scalp, for example, we know that while you may lose some of the native hairs in the area you shouldn't lose any transplanted hairs. Hope that helps!

Q: Hairline lowering reduction - should I consider this procedure?
Answered by Dr. MontagueApril 1, 2024

A: Great question! It sounds like you may have a few options. Hairline lowering surgery is a really nice surgery for appropriate candidates. I really like to perform these surgeries and think that patients are largely very satisfied. However, if your hairline needs to change shape, sometimes hair transplant is the better option. Hair transplant allows you to lower the hairline and fill in temporal recession which fundamentally changes the shape all at once. And, in some cases, I will do both procedures in a staged fashion to lower the hairline and then secondarily perform hair transplant to fill in certain areas. Regardless of which direction you go I would want to make sure your adrenal issue is properly treated and optimized before performing any surgery. And, as always, an in-person or virtual consultation would be necessary to be able to give a more thorough evaluation and answer. Best of luck!

Q: Forehead lengthening/forehead reduction reversal? (Photo)
Answered by Dr. MontagueApril 1, 2024

A: I'm sorry that you've had such a poor experience. It's tough to say without a more thorough evaluation of your skin/scalp laxity and brow position. I do not think tissue expanders is the best option but depending on exactly what was trying to be corrected could be an option. From the look of your picture the scar is still fairly red which may indicate that you're still early on in the healing process. You may find that after the scar matures more and all the swelling is gone you are more satisfied. However, you mention your hairline being affected. Hair transplant can be really useful in camouflaging a scar in this area and in reshaping/altering the hairline to be more favorable. Again, a full consultation would be best to see what your best option would be. I hope this is helpful.

Q: Is it safe to use Minoxidil 5% on healthy hair?
Answered by Dr. QuatelaMay 10, 2018

A: Minoxidil is a FDA-approved topical medication for hair growth that works well for androgen (hormone) related hair loss.  It helps extend the growth cycle of hair and decrease shedding that naturally occurs.  For minoxidil to work, there is an activation process.  During the first four weeks, fine hairs may shed where thicker hairs may replace.  During this time, it may appear you are losing hair when it is actually working.  However, if you stop using minoxidil, your hair will revert back to the same growth cycle.  I recommend a consultation with an expert in hair restoration.

Q: PRP for receding hair line? (Photo)
Answered by Dr. LeeOctober 6, 2017

A: We typically start with three PRP treatments spaced approximately 6-8 weeks apart.  Hair typically takes 90-120 days to cycle, so we would expect to see improvements after the second session.  I would recommend seeing a hair restoration specialist to further discuss this and other treatment options. Best of Luck
