Natural results - you cannot tell at all that I have had anything done

I write this review from a different perspective. As as physician, I do have a different standard I hold my fellow physicians. I expect them to be virtually superhuman! I do expect them to have perfect bedside manners, technical skills and I expect them to be completely relatable and approachable if I see them out and about. With all that said, this was a wonderful experience. This is a...

I felt well supported throughout the entire surgical process

Trust is the main thing you want in a doctor -- especially when it comes to enhancing your appearance. When I first walked into the L&P Aesthetics (Los Gatos) and met Dr. Curti...I knew I was in the right place. He was so personable and easy to talk to. He answered ALL of my questions (which were many) and quickly quieted any worries (as a male getting rhinoplasty I had some fears as to...

Extraordinary surgeons - the results are subtle, but significant

First, I want to say that I greatly admire and respect Drs. Lieberman & Parikh. In addition to being highly trained, skilled and meticulous surgeons, they are kind and caring nhuman beings. I first met them on Day 2 of the COVID lockdown in March of 2020. On the day before the lockdown, I had Mohs surgery for a squamous cell carcinoma on my upper lip which left a hole the size of a dime...

Could not be more thrilled with my results - I look like me again

I always knew that at some point, I would get a facelift. At age 54, it was time. My lower face began to sag, with jowls forming along my jawline. I had sagging skin under my chin, and my neck was also beginning to get wrinkly. I could really see the sagging skin in photos and I didn't recognize myself in them. I spent a year researching surgeons, asking my dermatologist, "What about this...

102 Q&A

Q: Gull wing or bull horn, scarring query (Photo)
Answered by Dr. CurtiFebruary 27, 2023

A: Gull-wing lip lifts place the incision (and scar) right at the vermillion border which is the junction of the red and white lip. The bullhorn technique places the incision (and scar) in the junction between the nose and face, just at the base of the nose in the natural shadows. It is true that the traditional bull horn lip lift preferentially lifts the center of the lip more than the corners so people who have thinning of the lips toward the corners can sometimes get an exaggerated central look. However, the bullhorn incision can be tailored to each individuals lip shape with careful measurements and patient goals as a guide. Even designing the incision to take more laterally, I will still sometimes combine the subnasal lip lift with a corner lip lift. This avoids a scar all the way across the vermillion border and still achieves a natural appearance to the upper lip shape. Each surgeon is different and they tend to use the techniques they know best and are most comfortable with. Without examining you in person it is hard to offer an opinion on your specific situation. I hope this helps, Steven Curti, MD

Q: Which is better - incision in the hairline or just below the sideburn for lower facelift?
Answered by Dr. CurtiFebruary 7, 2023

A: Traditional incisions that were placed behind the temporal tuft in the hair line hide well, but tend to pull the sideburn into the scalp and can give a very "operated" look. Most current surgical techniques use an incision that follows the sideburn a few hair follicles in. While these can be visible upon close inspection, with a good closure technique involving no/minimal tension and proper suture placement the scars can be almost invisible. This is a question that you should ask your surgeon and be comfortable with prior to surgery. I like to show pictures of cases and exactly what the incisions look like during consultations.

Q: Lip lift scar at 6 months post-op, will it improve from here? (Photos)
Answered by Dr. CurtiFebruary 7, 2023

A: It takes around a year for scars to completely mature. Until that time the scar can change. From what I can see in the pictures, there is still some redness and a raised component to the scar that may continue to improve. I would speak to your surgeon about scar management but if you are not currently using silicon gel or patches and good sun protection I would start there. Beyond those, dermabrasion or lasers all have some efficacy with camouflaging scars.

Q: Juvederm in marionette lines 5 years ago - do I have filler migration? (Photo)
Answered by Dr. CurtiFebruary 7, 2023

A: Although an examination would tell more, it is unlikely that the areas in the photograph is filler migration. It appears more likely that you are showing early signs of aging with some laxity and possibly buccal fat pad protrusion. Although injections can somewhat mask these issues I would recommend seeing a board certified facial plastic surgeon or plastic surgeon who can preform an in person exam and offer you options for treatment.

Q: What type of lip lift would lift the two peaks of my upper lip and the corners of my mouth?
Answered by Dr. CurtiJanuary 24, 2023

A: A corner lip lift is used to increase the red lip show on the corner of the lip. The traditional subnasal lip lift is great at lifting the central lip but due to the limits of where the incision can be placed, it preferentially lifts the central lip over the corners. The subnasal lip lift can be designed to take more laterally but it still has difficulty lifting the true corner. Many times I recommend a corner lip lift in combination with a subnasal lip lift or in isolation. I believe this would help you achieve the look you are more interested in.
