This 56-year-old woman has extreme puffiness on her upper and lower eyelids which gives her a tired appearance. The swelling is worse in the morning because the excess fatty pad tissue acts like a sponge and gets "boggy" during the night. Eyelid surgery takes approximately two hours and is done as an outpatient procedure. The excess skin of the upper and lower eyelids is removed as well as the excess fat. Notice on this patient that her lower fatty pad pockets are seen quite distinctly as there are three pockets in the lower lid areas. If the patient were to look up or to the side, there would be more prominence of these pads. She is seen in the post-op picture at two months.
