Brachioplasty 

An arm lift, or brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to remove excess skin and fat from the upper arms to create a slimmer, more toned appearance. This procedure is ideal for individuals who experience sagging or loose skin due to aging or significant weight loss. By tightening the underlying tissues and removing unwanted skin, an arm lift enhances arm contours and restores a more youthful, sculpted look. Results are long-lasting, and with proper care, scars typically fade over time.

Observing the change at 4 months highlights the efficacy of brachioplasty for postweight-loss patients who are otherwise fit but constrained by skin laxity. Our patient is a 39-year-old Middle Eastern male who weighed 217 lbs at surgery and previously reached 544 lbs before undergoing a gastric sleeve and then an RNY. He had already undergone lower-body contouring with Dr. Timothy Katzen and sought to continue removing excess skin from the upper body, beginning with the arms. Under general anesthesia, Dr. Katzen performed an arm lift by first marking the extent of lax skin and planning an incision along the inner arm to improve discretion. Excess skin and underlying tissue were removed in a controlled pattern to achieve a smooth, even contour, and the remaining tissue was tightened to restore a firmer silhouette. Dr. Katzen focused on balanced transitions near the armpit and toward the elbow, assessed symmetry between the arms, and avoided over-resection to ensure the contour would appear natural during daily movement. The incision was closed in multiple layers to reduce tension and promote more predictable scar healing, and compression was applied to limit swelling and support skin re-draping. These 4-month photos show remarkable results, including a slimmer arm profile, improved upper-body proportion, and greater comfort in clothing, with further scar maturation and contour refinement expected as healing continues.
