I've been interested in the BBL procedure for a while now. I've followed Dr. Miami on snapchat, I started following some other surgeons as well and admired how much of a change they could make to the curves and contour of a woman's body through this procedure. After I had my second child, I worked and got really close to my pre-pregnancy weight, but my body just isn't the same as it used to be. I carry more fat in my midsection, I feel like I lack curves, and my poochy stomach has me reaching for the flowy shirts and dresses and abandoning the form-fitting clothes I used to love. My skin still has good elasticity, I have no stretch marks on my stomach, and based on my home-research and evaluation (I'm not a doctor), I don't believe I have a serious diastasis the needs repair, so I wasn't looking to get a tummy tuck.
I started researching liposuction and doctors near me and I had a consult. I told them I might be interested in fat transfer to help the shape of my butt, but I don't want a huge unnatural result. After my first consult, I decided I was going to do the full BBL, not just the Lipo, although I decided not to go with that surgeon. Honestly, the reason I went to have that consult in the first place was convenience. His office is 10 minutes from my house, and even though I wasn't super impressed with his work, it was a foot in the door to get started on this journey.
I also decided that I wanted high def, or VASER Lipo instead of traditional Lipo. The results are so much more natural looking in my opinion.
During the current pandemic, one of the surgeons I follow on IG and was interested in seeing was offering free virtual consults and a discount on services, so I scheduled with Dr. Galanis. The virtual consult was great. I felt incredibly comfortable talking to him, I didn't feel rushed at all (which is something I've experienced with every other plastic surgeon I've met with), and he was very informative and conversational. We talked about the procedure, he looked at my photos, and he got a plan together for me. After we were done, I was contacted by a coordinator in his office with the breakdown of the plan and costs.
The plan is: VASER Lipo of the abdomen, waist, and back
Fat transfer to hips & butt
& Jplasma of abdomen & waist (to tighten the skin)
The cost (even with a COVID discount) was a little hard to swallow BUT, this is my body I'm investing in! And if I want the best, I'm going to have to pay for it.
After I had that consult I knew that I wanted Dr. Galanis to do my procedure, and the discount helped me decide that this was the right time.
I am a little less than a week out from surgery now. I was given a list of items to purchase before, like chux pads, dark towels, maxi pads for the drainage, etc. so I have that all ready to go. I also picked up a bunch of prescriptions from the pharmacy. I had my pre-op physical & clearance with my primary care provider and all my labs came back good. Last step before heading up is my COVID swab test which needs to be completed within 5 days of surgery. My appointment for that is Monday June 1st. I head up to Beverly Hills on the 2nd for my pre-op appointment, and to check into my airbnb, and my surgery will be bright and early on Wednesday the 3rd!
I've had a breast aug before, and the recovery really wasn't bad. I'm hoping this won't be terrible either! I'm sure the first few days are going to suck but fingers crossed I get through the worst of it quickly.
Pre op info: I'm 29 years old, 2 children (and I'm done!), 5'5, around 150 lbs (was 145 pre- second pregnancy). My waist at the smallest point is about 32 inches in the morning, around my belly is about 38 inches. My main goals are to get a flatter stomach so I don't look pregnant and I can wear fitted clothes, more of an hour glass shape, and to give some volume to the flattened projection of my butt, so my butt is just more even and shapelier (you'll see in the pics!).

So I’m checked into my Airbnb, I had my covid testing yesterday which was negative, and I had my pre-op today with Dr. Galanis. My appointment was supposed to be at 1:30 pm, but because of the protests (#BLM), Beverly Hills was enforcing a 1 pm curfew. I was able to get on the road earlier than I planned and they fit me in for my appointment at 12. At my pre-op, I met with Tess, who takes care of A LOT at this practice, and she had me sign my consent forms, fitted my compression garments for post surgery, and took my before photos. Then I met with Dr. Galanis and he evaluated me and we talked about what to expect for the morning. I also asked him to take some before & after videos of me on the operating table like on his IG because i think they’re so cool, and he said he would be happy to do that :)
Even though I was fit in on their schedule because of the early office closure, everyone was so nice, and I didn’t feel rushed through at all.
They gave me my paper RX for my pain meds, and i got it filled at the pharmacy across the street. The pharmacist said she would only fill it if I bought narcan, (medication for opioid overdose), So I said okay...? But she didn’t actually make me buy it, so that was weird.
Anyways...
Surgery is scheduled for 7:30 am tomorrow with a 6:30 am arrival. I’ll shower in the morning and wash my body with hibiclens, and get dropped off. Unfortunately because of covid my boyfriend can’t come in with me for the first part of the visit, he can only drop off & pick me up.
I’m so excited for this procedure! I’m not really nervous at this point, maybe it will kick in tonight.

Can’t do a full update right now, I don’t have the energy, but today was great! I’m super sore and achey. When I stand up I get dizzy and nauseas so that isn’t fun, I’m hoping that doesn’t last long because i want to try to move around a little. Dr. Galanis did before & after video clips & they’re amazing! I’m so excited. I know I’m going to swell up but I’m having a lymphatic massage tomorrow so hopefully the swelling isn’t too significant.

I’m still very sore and uncomfortable today. I’ve been having some trouble urinating because of my catheter during surgery. I’m trying to drink a lot of water but it’s been hard. Eating is hard too because I’m still nauseas, even with my Zofran, but I’m able to eat a bit. My boyfriend has been amazing with everything, he’s helping me stand up and walk to the bathroom, helping me with my drains, keeping track of my meds. So glad he’s so helpful and supportive. I’m having my first lymphatic massage today and I’m a little nervous because I’m pretty sore. We’ll see how it goes!

So today we checked out of our Airbnb and drove home (a little under 2 hours). Thankfully I am feeling a bit better today, and i was able to sit on my bbl pillow in the car and did okay during the drive. Definitely still sore and achey, have to move slow & take it easy. I can shower tomorrow, and I’m going to have another lymphatic drainage massage tomorrow to help with my healing as well.
Overall, slowly feeling better.

Not much difference from yesterday. I tried cutting back on my norcos yesterday but last night I had to step it back up because I was really uncomfortable. It’s getting hard to sleep flat on my stomach all the time. My neck hurts and my arms hurt. I’ve been taking colace every day but haven’t had a bowel movement yet so I took miralax today, hoping that kicks things into gear. I got to take a shower today, and that was nice, although when I first took off the compression garments I got dizzy and had to lay down for a minute. I’m trying to get up and walk around the house a little, sit on my bbl pillow in the living room with my family, but mostly I’ve been in bed.

Today was a bit better! I switched to ibuprofen today and haven’t needed a norco so that is a huge step. I also had a bowel movement thank god because I was so uncomfortable. I had another lymphatic drainage massage today also. My pain is going down for sure, but I’m swollen. My butt seems like it has too much projection at the top but I texted the doctor my concern and he said the my butt shape is going to change a lot over the next few weeks & right now it is really swollen so not to worry. I have my post op appointment on Thursday, so just over a week post op, and I can’t wait to get these drains out, i hate them! Lol I know they’re helping clear out all this crap but they are so annoying. Oh well, doing what I have to do to so my results end up great! I’m expecting every day to get a little bit easier here on out. Hopefully. :)

Feeling a little bit better everyday. I’m still sore, and my swelling is getting worse. Yesterday I woke up & I could feel that my garments were tighter. Same feeling again this morning. Today I took a shower and afterwards my boyfriend noticed that it was harder to Velcro up the under garment because of the swelling. I’m taking ibuprofen still for the soreness, it’s helping a lot & I don’t need a narcotic pain med anymore. Very excited about that. I’m having trouble sleeping, I normally move around a lot in my sleep and i can’t right now so it’s been a challenge. Still feeling grateful for my support system helping so much with my recovery and with the kids. 2 more days til post op appointment and drain removal!

I had my 1 week post op appointment today and Dr. Galanis was really happy with how everything is looking. I had my drains removed and I’m veryyy happy about that. I didn’t even really feel him removing them. I can move around easier now with them out. Still swollen and a bit bruised. Gotta stay off my booty for another week, under garnet for another 3 weeks, and outer garment for another 5. I’m doing my next appointment virtually at 2 weeks to check in.
Updated on 12 Jun 2020:
I’m feeling almost back to normal. I’m not taking ibuprofen anymore, and since my drains were removed I feel like I can move around more freely, i can put my garments on myself now, I can stand for a while without getting tired or feeling sore. Still really stiff in my midsection, and still swollen (of course). I took a few pictures today and sent them to Dr. Galanis and he sent back a before photo from his office and I almost cried happy tears. I am SO beyond thrilled about how my stomach looks, and it’s only going to get better.

I am 2 weeks post op today, so I can start sitting and laying on my butt! I sat down today and it felt really weird because my butt is still all firm from the fat transfer so I’m still going to avoid sitting most of the time & use my bbl pillow. Still feeling a bit sore & stiff in my midsection but mostly back to normal. A lot of my swelling has resolved but I still have a bit here & there, and from what I’ve been told that minor swelling can still take months to fully go down. Updating with a few more Before & after pictures! :)
Updated on 2 Jul 2020:
I’m 4 weeks post op now & I no longer need my foam garment & only need my other compression at night for the next 2 weeks. I have a Skims waist trainer and spanx that I will be wearing during the day most of the time. I’m still stiff in my midsection, my range of motion is a little off, and because I’m still having nerves reconnect where I had lipo my midsection is sensitive still. Still have some minor swelling. Looking forward to my end result! :)

This recovery has taken a bit longer than I thought! I still have some numbness & tightness in my midsection, it’s sllloowwllyy improving but not really affecting my life at this point. I’ve had a hard time exercising due to covid & being home with my kids all the time. Trying to get out of the house & walk as much as I can but I know when I’m able to get back in the gym my result will be even better. :)
One of these after photos shows that my belly isn’t perfectly flat but I opted not to do a tummy tuck so I expected that from having 2 babies. I’m hoping with a lot of planking and core work I can get it more flat!

Hi! It’s crazy to say that it has been over a year since my surgery. Still love my body and have no regrets. My weight has fluctuated a bit due to life (I think most of us understand pandemic weight issues) but even with gaining a few pounds my body looks great. I’m back at the gym and working on myself a bit more these days. Thought I would pop in and leave a few update photos from the past few months.
