Overall I had a great experience with Dr. Zeidler. I got a breast augmentation with internal bra and lipo in the armpit area. Consultation - I met with a nurse and Dr Z took some measurements and I showed her my inspo pics. Dr. Z is the one who recommended the lipo. It had never even crossed my mind and I wanted the best possible results. Since I was already going under might as well add what I could. The nurse helped me with sizing. I was very overwhelmed and didn’t remember much of what the doc said thank gosh my boyfriend was there to help me. It was A LOT for me. I was sticker stocked when I got the original quote. I do understand Dr. Z is a phenomenal surgeon and they may be a little more expensive than some places. (I honestly didn’t even get a quote from other surgeons but did enough research to know I could get it for cheaper somewhere else but I wanted the best results) Pre op - I didn’t get to see the doctor because I called last minute and changed my surgery day from the end of May to the beginning which they had to scramble to get me in for my pre op (there must be some rule that you have to talk to them and see them at the 2 week mark because at the exact 2 week mark I had a call with the nurse and the following day with Dr. Z because I was out of town, then I came in for my pre op appointment on the following Monday.(11 days prior to my surgery). I was able to talk to Dr Z multiple times over the phone which helped me feel better. When I went in that Monday for my pre-op I brought a bunch of tops to try on with my sizers. I was between 375cc and 400cc. When I spoke with Dr Z on the phone and at my consultation she recommended 400 which is what I went with. The nurses let me try on sizers (I only tried on 375 and 400 because I was set on getting one or the other but I could have tried on a variety of sizers) with all my clothes and I didn’t feel rushed at all. Then they went over all the paperwork, took my height and weight, blood pressure, heart rate, and had me sign some documents as well as answer all my questions. Then had me pay my balance off before I left. I had my boyfriend come with me to my consultation (not pre-op) which was a huge help for me. He’s very supportive and since I was so nervous I was able to retain a lot of the information but he did and was able to remind me. So if you have someone who is very supportive and honest (not judgmental) I would bring them to your pre op and maybe they can help you listen to what the doctor says and help you pick. But the best thing to do is have inspo pictures to show the doctor and see what she recommends for the look you are going for. Then try on the range of sizers she recommends and see what you like. (BRING CLOTHES TO TRY ON, no one told me this and I read it somewhere and was so happy I ended up bringing clothes to try on) Surgery - 2 days before my surgery I started freaking out and couldn’t sleep. Then the night before my surgery I ate and edible and slept like a baby. I woke up feeling more excited than nervous. I live about 3 hrs north so I had to leave by 0830ish and surgery was scheduled for 1230 I had to be there at 11am. They had me sign some papers and went over my post op care with my boyfriend who’s taking care of me. They took me back and had me change then the nurse, Freddy, came in gave me a cup to pee in for the pregnancy test, gave me an IV which he also took some blood, gave me fluids, and medicine. Freddy was awesome. He really calmed my nerves, he was very knowledgeable, used to be an ICU and trauma nurse before he switched over to plastics and I felt like I was in good hands. Then Dr. Z came in and we chatted for a bit and she also made me feel 100% better. I really like her. She gave me good vibes. My surgery started about 10-20min after scheduled time so between 12:40-12:50. I’m not sure what time they woke me up but I FELT AWFUL. My left side hurt a lot and my nurse was now Daphanie. She gave me 2 doses of fentanyl for the pain and something else. They had to keep me for over an extra hour because they couldn’t get my blood pressure up. They asked if I wanted more pain medicine (AND I REALLY DID) but if I took it I would have to stay another 30min and I wanted to get out of there so badly. I felt nauseous and in pain but as soon as I was released and laid down in the car (BRING PILLOWS FOR AFTER SURGERY). I left SO MUCH BETTER. My boyfriend was even surprised how well I was doing. He had 2 bean burritos (per my request) waiting for me. After I ate I felt 100x better. I napped most of the way home but I also would get up for a bit and felt pretty good. Pain was definitely manageable. For the first 3-4 days I definitely recommend taking the pain meds as prescribed! It’s not worth waking up in the middle of the night in pain because you want to tough it out. Though it does make you SO CONSTIPATED! I was extremely uncomfortable and looked like I was pregnant from how bloated I was. I was even taking Miralax and stool softeners and nothing seemed to work until day post op day 4. Since the pain was a manageable I stopped taking the pain killers on day 4 or day 5. I also wasn’t able to shower at the 72hr mark because every time I would try to take off my surgical bra everything would go black, I couldn’t breathe, I wanted to vomit, it’s like my whole body just went “dead” and my boyfriend had to carry me to bed until post op day 5! I recommend showering with your bra on at first (unless you don’t have this issue). At my first post op appointment (day 5) I was able to take my bra off without fainting and Gigi made me feel great about my results so far! I went home and could take my first fully naked shower without help! (YAY!) So far they look weird which i completely expected due to all the research I’ve done. I tried on a top last night and even though they haven’t “dropped and fluffed” they look hella good in a top. My boyfriend is a lot better at visualizing and making me feel good and he says they look amazing and he can already see how good they will look once they heal and settle. For reference - I am 5’6.5 and 144lbs. I will continue to update with progress pics! Updated on 16 May 2025: Here are some updated picture from post op day 8. Loving the way they look in clothes. Pain is manageable. Most days I don’t take any pain medication other than the Celebrix that was prescribed. I am looking forward to them dropping and becoming softer. I would say everyday they get soften but still extremely hard!
It felt really empowering to make a decision for myself about my body, and I’m so grateful I had Dr. Kamakshi Zeidler and the entire Aesthetx team to guide me through it. I came to Dr. Z for a breast lift with internal bra and an upper blepharoplasty, and from start to finish, I felt incredibly supported and cared for. Dr. Z is an exceptionally skilled surgeon with a great eye for aesthetics. She really understood the look I was hoping for and delivered results that I’m thrilled with. My incisions were handled with so much care, and the minimal scarring has far exceeded my expectations. Recovery was smooth, and I always felt like I had a strong support system if I needed anything along the way. The team also provided really thorough preparation and guidance leading up to the surgery, which helped me feel much more at ease — especially since I’m naturally squeamish. Having the on-site OR made a big difference too; it was reassuring to have my procedure done in the same familiar, welcoming space where I also go for non-surgical treatments. This was my first surgery experience, and I truly couldn’t have asked for a better one. I’m so grateful to Dr. Z and the Aesthetx team, and I would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone who values impeccable standards, a modern aesthetic, expert skill, and genuinely caring support.
After 30 years of having implants, with 4 surgeries to remove and replace due to 3 capsular contractions and 1 rupture incident, I finally made the decision to explant permanently. My last set were silicone along with the Strattice. This was my first time using silicone & I believe my body rejected it from day one, they always felt itchy on the inside border of both sides. Two years later, I developed a horrific pain which felt like I was having a heart attack. Ended up being an accute capsulation with an infection that presented itself on my left inner breast. After 2 rounds of antibiotics the infection didn’t go away & the capsulation got much worse. My surgeon was worried that I wouldn’t be happy with the results due to having very little breast tissue along with scar tissue removal from previous surgeries. I was warned that I could end up looking disfigured, but she promised to make them as pretty as possible. They ended turning out way better than the surgeon had anticipated & I couldn’t be more happy with the results so far : ) 1st photo is day before surgery & after photos are 4 days post op. I wish I would have removed them sooner & saved myself money.
I am so incredible thankful for the expertise, commitment, and excellent care I received from Dr. Zeidler and her team. I can’t thank her and her team enough for all the incredible care before, during, and after my surgery.I was having symptoms from my implants and decided to remove them. We did an explant with a fat transfer. I have never felt better, physically and mentally! My body and breast look amazing after 3 months post op. I LOVE that this is an option to be able to be natural and still have a womanly figure. Dr.Ziedler is a true artist! Her work is done with extreme precision. I wouldn’t trust anyone else with an explant surgery. She is an incredible doctor who truly cares about her patients. She listened to every concern, answered all my questions, and never rushed me out of the office. She is surrounded by a powerful team who takes good care of you. Thank you Dr.Z and team for the beautiful work that you do. I will forever be grateful!
I am thoroughly amazed at my outcome from breast augmentation and liposuction with Dr. Kamakshi Zeidler. I first contacted Dr. Zeidler's office over 5 years ago. I thought I was ready for surgery, but I wasn't, for a variety of issues. Despite my years of delay, Dr. Zeidler and her team were patient and accommodating. They treated me like gold through my whole journey, from planning, to surgery, and now recovery. I am a transgender patient. It is worth pointing out that I felt very comfortable on every visit to the Aesthetx medical offices. All of the staff that I met there were extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and accomodating. I will post additional notes to my review here to share my thoughts and photos from the process of getting my surgery completed. Updated on 28 Dec 2021: This update to my review simply shows the wish pics that I brought to my surgeon. I'm planning to provide a subsequent update that shows my own before/after results. Updated on 11 Jan 2022: I decided on Sientra, Mod Plus, Textured, 305cc. Updated on 22 May 2022: It has been almost 6 months since my BA with Dr. Kamakshi Zeidler. The surgery has been life changing for me, much more than I could have anticipated. I feel more confident than ever-before in my entire life. I'm extremely happy with my outcome. Updated on 2 Jul 2022: So happy! PS. Real self mobile app stinks for uploading pictures! It auto-zooms and messes up aspect ratios. Seems like someones middle-school age kid wrote this app. Needs to be fixed! Updated on 1 Aug 2022: 8 months post-op, and I'm still 100% thrilled ith my results from Dr. Zeidler
Expectations Prior to having fat-transfer-to-breast surgery, I tried to temper my expectations. I’d done tons of reading and knew that I shouldn’t expect a significant increase, that I would bound to be disappointed as swelling decreased along with the size of my breasts, that some fat would die, and finally, that, per my surgeon, I would only achieve a half cup size, if that. I had convinced myself prior to surgery that this was a long-term strategy to increase my breast size—that after I reached menopause and gained weight, it would surely go to my breasts, since that’s where my most resistant fat was being transferred (who knows if this will actually occur). I also secretly hoped that I would luck out and be one of those rare ladies who achieve and retain, a full cup size. Probably not realistic to expect, given my low weight. Despite all of this mental preparation, I am still disappointed by my fat-transfer-to-breast, and the unexpected, negative results that this surgery wrought upon my body. The Surgeon and Surgery I chose Dr. Kamakshi Zeidler due to her impressive credentials and expertise, as well as her use of Pure Graft and Hydrasolve. Pure Graft reduces the overall length of the surgery (mine was 2.5 hours, versus what most likely would’ve been four hours) and promises to deliver a cleaner graft, which means a higher retention rate (80%). I could not a find a plastic surgeon in my state who uses Pure Graft for fat-transfer-to-breasts! It does add $1000 to the surgery expenses, since it can only be used during one surgery. Hydrasolve is a gentle form of liposuction that’s less traumatic to the extracted fat, and possibly resulting in less bruising for the patient. The total cost was $10,000 (though it cost me more, due to paying for flights and an Airbnb). The Aesthetx staff was great, and I liked how they all introduced themselves as a group to me, just prior to being wheeled into the operating room. I had given my surgeon carte blanche to extract fat wherever she could find it, but thankfully during my pre-op consult she warned me if she took too much fat from any one area, such as my stomach (where I wanted it all suctioned away), this would result in surface irregularities, such as bumps and cellulite. She ended up doing 8 incisions: 2 from my abdomen, one in the middle of my lower back, one just below my tailbone, 2 under my buttocks (to reach my thighs), and 1 under each armpit. She suctioned 1000 cc total, and purified, then transferred, 415 cc of it. She purposefully did not overfill my breasts, because that can lead to fat necrosis and cysts, later down the road. Recovery Recovery was painful. The compression garments were super-tight, so tight that I almost immediately stopped wearing the bra, since it was compressing whatever invisible fat had been transferred (you’re not supposed to put pressure on them the first few weeks). I really tried to wear the abdominal/leg compression garment 24/7 the first day, but with my swelling and the foam inserts, it felt like it was crushing my internal organs, so, I ended up wearing it just for a few hours the first few days, then more consistently starting a week later. It did help with lower back pain, and is supposed to help decrease swelling, etc. I can’t blame my nurse for selecting the size that she did—I don’t have a high hip-waist ration, so really, she had to choose between getting a Small (thus compressing my belly and thighs) or a Medium, which would’ve allowed me to breathe and digest better, but wouldn’t have helped my thighs. My stomach and lower back pain were the worst, and made getting up and laying down in bed, quite excruciating. When I woke up at night, which occurred multiple times the first couple of nights, I would clutch my belly in pain, and do a hunched-over shuffle to the bathroom. I finally checked out my body after a few days: My swollen breasts were the perfect size for my body. My stomach looked much flatter, but everything else was swollen, and my butt seemed higher (due to fat loss of the upper thighs). After about 9-10 days, the swelling in my breasts had disappeared completely, and along with it, my breast size. From reading others’ reviews, it seemed like my deflation occurred at a much more rapid rate than others’. Dr. Zeidler had advised me to begin myofascial release massage therapy a couple of days after surgery (at least within the 1st 3 weeks), to prevent lumps and bumps beneath the surface of my skin, but I couldn’t even imagine anyone touching my bruised thighs that soon after surgery. Also, I could not (and still cannot) find a massage therapist to do this, due to COVID. She advised me to try self-massage techniques, if possible, so, when I felt able to stand pressure on my thighs (about 1.5 weeks later), I started. At that point in time, I noticed some lines under my buttocks, hanging folds of skin, where fat used to support my butt, and some cellulite where none had been, previously. To prevent them from getting worse, I tried using a trigger point massage tool, a roller, dry brushing and even red light therapy, over a period of time. Nothing helped, and my thighs have gotten worse every single day. I now have tons of cellulite under my butt, and the folds have not faded. You truly do not appreciate what you have, till it’s gone !! I intend to try radiofrequency and cupping when I’m able! It’s been two months and I still have a bit of numbness, knottiness and swelling on my sides! Oh yeah, and there were some intense periods of itching, which correlated with the healing process. The scars under my armpits disappeared within the first week, the ones on back within about 3 weeks, but the abdominal and under-buttock scars are still quite noticeable, despite the twice daily application of the expensive scar cream they recommended. As for my breast size itself, since I cannot currently access my pre-op photos (due to COVID office shut down) and I did not take any pre-surgery measurements, it’s difficult to see whether any fat has actually retained. Final Thoughts After reading through the most positive reviews not only in Real Self, but via YouTube first-hand accounts, it seems like the patients who feel the most satisfied with this particular procedure fall into two categories: 1) People who have had their implants explanted and therefore have larger breast envelopes to fill. You can transfer more fat into larger spaces, and it’s more likely to survive without the compression of tight skin and breast tissue surrounding it. 2) People whose primary goal is to get rid of excess fat. In other words: Not me! I cannot recommend this procedure for anyone who fits my profile. The pain, cost, scars, minimal if non-existent gains, and worst of all, the new cellulite on my thighs are just not worth it. Updated on 18 Jun 2021: Just a follow-up on my previous review, written over a year ago. I wanted to warn others that fat transferred to your breasts can cause confusing mammogram readings, possibly necessitating an ultrasound and even a biopsy (as almost happened to me!). Not fun! As for my results--breasts are still the same size, my dimpling of the thighs has gotten worse and my butt is saggier than ever, since there is no thigh fat to support it. Another unwanted effect of this surgery is that I'm noticeably skinnier now (with no thigh fat and a sunken butt!) and have been receiving comments in this regard, while everyone else during COVID has gained weight. I'm sure friends think I am bulimic! I'm not an attractive site. Undergoing this surgery has been the biggest regret in my entire life--don't let it be yours!
I was the un willing and unhappy poster child for failed implants...Finally found Dr. Zeidler thru this site and I couldn't be more pleased! First implants 30 years ago, the last in 2017. Just do it! Updated on 26 Oct 2019: Well, all in all I am very satisfied. I really do feel healthier and happier not having lumps of hardened and contorted flesh for breasts! The result isn't perfect, but it is such an improvement I can't complain. I may opt to have my left nipple redone. The areola tissue is puffy compared to the right. The scars continue to flatten and fade, in spite of me not being vigilant about massage and silicone over the past month.
My entire experience with Dr. Zeidler and her staff was incredible. She was the only consult that I booked! I am 5’9 160 lbs two children. I was looking to boost the fullness of my breasts after breastfeeding both of my little ones. A trusted friend recommended Dr. Z and suggested I consider fat grafting to the breasts as well as implants. Dr. Z walked through all of our options very patiently and honestly. She asked why I was considering an augmentation and listened intently to what my breast augmentation goals were. Ultimately I wanted a very natural look. We ended up choosing the Sientra textured shaped oval based implant at 250 cc combined with the fat grafting to the breasts in hopes of achieving a very classic and natural look. Day before surgery: I received a call from both a nurse and the anesthesiologist to go over what would be happening the following following morning. Day of surgery: I was there at 7:30am with a surgery time of 9am. I had been slightly nervous the week leading up to the big day and morning of. Within 5 minutes of checking in I was completely comfortable and at ease! The entire team did a briefing with me and off we went. The anesthesiologist asked me about my children and the next thing I knew I was waking up in recovery. Dr. Z and her team were incredible! She truly is an impressive Doctor! Updated on 7 Jun 2019: Some before photos. Updated on 7 Jun 2019: As the anesthesia wears off the discomfort and pain kicks in, but it’s very manageable with the pain medication. The areas of my back where the lipo was done are probably more tender than my breasts. A little bit of bruising here and there which I expected. My breast are very swollen at this point but I’m so happy with the way they look already! Updated on 13 Jun 2019:
I got implants when I was 26, fast forward 10 years and I knew I wanted them out. I had breast feed one child and also became very active. the implants did not fit my body, they made me look heavier and more matronly than I was, and I always felt like I needed to hide them. I went on 5 consultations and I knew Dr. Ziedler was the one. I felt confident in her recommendations and her bedside manner was amazing. She uses the latest technology, and quite frankly I felt like she knew exactly what I wanted aesthetically - Perky, youthful breasts, with the smallest scar possible. I opted for removal with fat transfer from my lower back and hips to fill in lost volume. I’m 12 weeks post op and I am very happy with my results. My breasts continue to round out as time passes. I have been seeing Dr. zeidlers recommended massage therapist who has been helping to eliminate all of the scar tissue so that eventually my breasts will feel completely natural. Updated on 19 Nov 2018: 15 weeks. Feeling good. Really no pain in lipo areas, sometimes it itches.
I am so fortunate to meet Dr. Kamakshi Zeidler and to have her perform my breast surgery. I would recommend her, without a doubt , to anyone who is looking for a plastic surgeon whom specializes in breast reconstruction, revision and/ or augmentation surgery, Here is some background info on my story. At age 24 I had silicone/ saline implants placed. I liked the outcome and never really experienced any trouble. Fast forward in time about the year 2015, I was in a car accident and had air bag and seat belt trauma in my chest area and that may have caused the issue (implant rupture) looking back now. My story begins a year ago, when I noticed that I would have a bad chest pain for a few seconds and then it would go away. The pain was a crushing pain and I would stop any action I was doing at the time. The pain would get my attention . At the time I was 52 years old and I had spoken with few people whom mentioned that hormones may cause additional chest pain. Even when I got my mammogram the technician said it was not uncommon at this age for your breast to be uncomfortable or to experience pain during hormone changes . I asked a local plastic surgeon to take a look at my breast because I was having pain he immediately prescribed an MRI to be taken. The MRI showed that there was a rupture in one of my breasts. We discussed having a breast reduction procedure and while discussing the surgery , we had a conversation about the risks and how the skin can experienced Necropathy . After the surgery if the tissue where it has been cut , does it heal properly there is a possible risk that the tissue can die, if it doesn’t heal properly . I figured the doctors tell you all the bad risks so you know what you’re getting into and recognized this as such. When I asked the doctor what percent is the risk of necropathy happening , he said 10% He said your case it is identical to another case he had experienced and it was the one time this has ever happened to him, ( the patient experienced necropathy post surgery) , so now your at 100% risk possibly. That comment scared me and I called my husband and he reminded me that I can always get a second opinion until I feel good about the surgeon for this surgery. When I called the Aesthetix office, the staff mention that Dr. Zeidler specializes in breast surgery and that helped put my mind to ease a little. I have been reading about her accomplishments in the a “New Beauty “magazine and I was really excited to have a chance to meet Dr Zeidler. When I did meet her, I was fully impressed with her experience, her bedside manner and her ideas about how to tackle the surgery. She informed me that the chest pain that I was experiencing was capsular contracture around the ruptured implant. The chest pain was what was happening as a result of the rupture in my implant. The tissue was trying to squeeze the implant or reject it. I got my answer from her as to why this was happening to me . Originally when I presented the pain in my chest, to the other doctor he said he did not know why I have pain but he can remove the implant rupture and perform a breast reduction. My concern wasn’t about size, it was about the pain. Dr. Zeidler talked about her auto implant procedure where she takes my own tissue and uses that as an implant because the size my breasts were large enough and I had enough tissue to do this procedure I could’ve had a new implant placed but I decided against that and go for a more natural look. If you’re interested in augmentation, I definitely recommend Dr. Zeidler here as well , for this procedure. With her expertise in surgery and she also works on the board with a lot of implant manufacturers to make sure the implants are at the cutting edge and are much better than they were many many years ago for safety and esthetics . The only reason I decided against it was I was older and I just didn’t want anything else in my body anymore at this point. It was just a personal choice both choices are optimum but for me I want to go natural. Dr Zeidler’s discussion with me about the potential with surgery light scaring would be a lollipop incision opposed to a large anchor shape option offered by my previous surgeon. This also showed me her techniques were more advanced surgery wise. I knew that I was in good hands when a week before my surgery Dr. Zeidler had just come back from Italy where she taught plastic surgeons from all over the world her special technique that she was doing on me and I was so proud that she was my doctor and I felt in excellent hands. I can’t tell you how important it is to see Dr Zeidler , if breast surgery is something you’re looking into. Fast forward 3 months post surgery This is the best procedure that I have ever experienced. Dr Zeidler did identify that one of my implants was completely ruptured and this wouldn’t hav been a very good thing for my body, if left untreated. I received a breast lift and auto implant procedure where my breasts are no longer down towards the ground but actually perky and looking natural . I cannot say enough good things about Dr Zeidler . I can only write this review and spread the word about how wonderful and experienced Dr Zeidler is and how she provides cutting edge surgery procedures to her patience with outstanding results. If you need more info, follow her on Instagram under “ Doctor Z” This site gave me my confidence in her and seeing many many happy patients were her work is a success. I knew whom was my best choice to perform my breast procedure. I will leave you with this info that it is important to do your research and feel really good about who you’re seeing and know that your results will be what you are expecting and even more than you imagined.
Getting the right size and shape can be difficult during breast implant revision surgery. The capsule that forms around a breast implant needs to taken into consideration when planning an implant revision procedure. It is usually easiest to go bigger because only a small opening is required to make additional space for a larger implant. When downsizing, the capsule usually needs to be modified if the change is significant because this will prevent small implants form moving around in a large space . . . which can lead to an unnatural looking and wide cleavage region and implants that fall way to the side when lying down. Many times, surgeons will perform a capsulorrhaphy, which means the capsule will be modified. This can include simple electrocautery or "pop corning" of the capsule causing it to shirk in areas when it is gently burned with an electrical current cutting device called a bovie that is routinely used for everything in surgery. This can include stitches to narrow a certain area like the sides (to decrease the amount of "side-boob"). Sometimes the capsule is cut and folded on itself to make the results more dramatic. Sometimes a tissue matrix is added to bolster these repairs to make sure they are long lasting (products like Strattice or Galaflex and there are many others). Sometimes an entirely new pocket is formed . . . one that can be smaller and tighter on the sides to create a look that keeps the implants more central and pointing forward. This technique is called a "neo-pocket" or new pocket and requires making a new space in front of the old implant capsule, removing the old implant, and then suturing own the old space to collapse it. This ensures a new snug pocket for the new implant. This technique is the most reliable for downsizing implants. Many patients are also looking to create a more natural look when downsizing and changing to an anatomically shaped implant can help create this desired look. It is very important to make sure a new snug pocket is created when switching to an anatomically shaped implant to make sure there is no risk for rotation of the implants. Finally for patents who really want a natural look, fat transfer can be added to a breast revision procedure, and the fat can be carefully placed in areas to enhance natural contours - especially in the cleavage and the upper poles.
The most common reason patients have another surgery after breast augmentation is because the size is not right and it is split equally between too big and too small. If you want to decrease the size of your breasts, you should consider a change of 100cc minimum to notice a difference and about 200cc to go down at least a cup size. Breasts with good skin elasticity and implants that were placed under the muscle can often bounce back well without the need for a lift or different incisions after implants are removed or downsized. For breast with poor elasticity and stretched out tissue, a lift is sometimes needed to reduce the amount of skin to prevent the breast from being droopy over the implant, and this usually requires a new lollipop type incision.Depending on the implant you choose, a new smaller pocket has to be created in the breast. You may need to switch them to under the muscle and you may need to use a tissue matrix or scaffold to help hold the implant in a smaller space. This is especially important for textured implants and the anatomically shaped teardrop implants to decrease the risk of both rotation (flipping of the implant) and malposition (implant getting stuck in a bad position).
Many patients are concerned, as you are, about their health and the long term implications of their Sientra implants. It is important to know that regulatory agencies around the world are in agreement that there are no patient safety issues related to the halt placed on the production of implants by Silimed which makes breast implants for Sientra. To be cautious, Sientra has temporarily and voluntarily halted sales of their implants while an investigation is completed. It is too early to worry about your warranty, and there is no need to be concerned about your health. Your plastic surgeon, like other board certified plastic surgeons, will be among the first to hear updates from Sientra, our plastic surgery society, and the FDA.
Many women are worried by the recent news that Sientra stopped selling their implants in the United States, but there is no need to worry about your health. Sientra gets their implants from Silimed, a Brazilian company whose implants are both very popular and have an excellent track record of safety around the world. In the last few weeks, there was a finding of microscopic sterile particles on the implants which led regulatory agencies around the world wanting more information leading to a hold on manufacturing and selling of Silimed's products. All of regulatory agencies around the world have acknowledged that this is not a patient safety issue and that the initial findings had nothing to do with any incidents in actual patients. All implanted devices, not just breast implants, have sterile particles and there is currently no standard on how many particles is a normal range. While these details are being worked out, Sientra has voluntarily put a hold on their implants to be cautious. The FDA in the United States is the strictest regulatory agency in the world which is why there are only 3 breast implant companies in the United States. You can be reassured that if their is a concern for patient safety, the FDA will act quickly to protect patients and make recommendations for what to do.
After breast augmentation surgery, it is common to have some fluid around the implants. Inflammation makes the tissues swollen and this can lead to a small amount of fluid around the implants. Generally the fluid is small in amount and goes away over the first few weeks. When there is concern about an abnormal collection of fluid around the implant (seroma) and ultrasound can evaluate how much fluid is present. Based on how much fluid there is, your plastic surgeon may or may not decide to have the fluid aspirated or removed, and this is generally done by a radiologist experienced with the technique with the help of ultrasound. At only 4 weeks after augmentation surgery, it is very common to see some asymmetries in the breasts . . . sometimes one side drops faster than the other side, and sometimes one muscle has more inflammation. It is important to discuss these concerns with your surgeon to see what is recommended.
