My skin is so much better

Hey realself people,
I've come a long way since my last review. My skin is so much better. The rashes and acne have gone and I think I've had a pretty easy ride on accutane.

I started out with 20mgs, then went up to 40mgs , then 50mgs and now back to 40mgs.

My side effects were dry lips which aquaphor healed, dry skin which Vaseline was a saviour, dry eyes, dry hair. I really hated the dry hair because afro-carribean hair needs a lot of oils to be healthy so my hair has suffered a lot. Another thing I noticed was skin darkening on my face/neck (and other areas that are exposed to the the sun) which has improved now. I also had little itchy and little hypopigmentations on random areas on my body. My derm said this would go away when I've stopped accutane. It is apparently due to dry skin.

That's pretty much it. I'm telling everyone I meet with acne to give it a go. I think accutane has an unfair reputation in the press. Instead of being depressed I am now really sociable and have gone back to my old self. I did not get one feeling on depression or suicide.... Not even a flinting though. It was all excited expectations about how my skin would look and now I am contented with my skin. I'm still not confident enough to go out without makeup but I'm getting there. At the moment... I am just a little anxious regarding stopping accutane. I'm like... What if it comes back when I stop. I really hope not.

So if you are thinking about it. Go for it.

14 days on accutane

so it's been 14 days since I started accutane and ironically acne is the last thing on my mind.
the last two months has been hell on earth for me. I know there are people with worse situations in the world and I never really realised how much I cared about how I look until this mysterious itchy rash decided to settle around my mouth. thankfully I know it's called perioral dermatitis now and I am taking zithromax (a very strong antibiotics) to treat it. but in the mean time I don't appreciate looking like a bearded lady or a fella with razor bumps becuase of this godawful rash. I can't wait for it to go! I'm just worried that a combo of zithromax and accutane might be taking a toll on my body even though I don't feel it. but that's that...
soooo my accutane experience...
Well there's not much to write about. I realized I didn't mention in my last post. I am on 20mg once a day, I weight 56kg and I am 5'9 tall. I haven't experienced a lot side effects yet. at least not as much as I anticipated. i noticed some knee/hip pain during my time of the month a few days ago but I sometimes get those at that time so I'm not sure if it was down to the tane or down to my time of the month. I also wore contact lenses for the first time today since starting accutane and it felt a little uncomfortable (not massively uncomfortable) so I think I may have mild dry eyes from accutane. apart from that, I've been keeping on top of any anticipated side effects by moisturizing my lips, hair, skin everything. I've also been taking cod liver/vit e/calcium/vit d/probiotics to help with my body up keep. I've been stretching my muscles any time I can (yoga/pilates) and taking regular warm bath... I don't know what's working but I'll keep on doing those If it keeps the side effects way.
my acne has not changed. I have one or two tiny active acne on my face... Ohh I now have chest acne which I never had.. what the hell is that all about?? but I think it might be a side effects of the prednisone that was firstly used to treat the rash.

I really can't wait to see results but I'll be patient for now.

Hey realself peeps... here's my accutane journey...

hey realself peeps...

here's my accutane journey...

I've battled acne since I was 11..thanks to my mum for getting jiggy with a man with who has this rampant wonderful gene called acne.

acne gave me a break from the age of 13 - 16 but that was too good to be true. it came back with vengence - big and small nasty painful scaring acne. since then I've tried everything that some of you may have tried. I can't remember all but a few are doxycicline, clandamycine, erythromycin, trimethorprime (which almost made me anorexic) - they all worked but the acne always came back at least a year later.

I have also tried topical stuff like panoxyl, quinoderm, zitzap and countless cleansers and creams. some worked and some didn't. I have tried countless diets and all sorts and to be honest they are all a farse and never did don't work.

To top it off, seven weeks ago I had an allergic reaction and broke out in painful itchy burning rash all over my face so my skin is now 600% worse - I've used Steroid creams and prednisone but they keep coming back - I thought acne was bad!! this is worse case they itch and burn and there's a million of them

accutane was the last resort for acne and I can't believe I am starting today, I'll take my first pill this evening. with the rash and acne I have definitely been experiencing some low moods for the past weeks (some would call this depression?) I know you should not start accutane feeling like this but i know that the only thing depressing in my life right now is my skin so it's makes sense to sort it out. also, I really can't put the accutane off becuase I have waited almost a year for this day.

. I went through the NHS and I been waiting since JUNE 2014. yes - 10 month waiting list for two appointment that lasted roughly 5 minutes. go figure! despite this I am extremely grateful to live in a country like this - I've heard of people paying £1000 - 2000 for a whole course of accutane and I don't think I could afford.

wish me luck - I'm not looking forward to the side effects.
even though I'm not religious I'll definitely be praying to heaven and hell to reduce the side effect - wish me luck.
