I just turned 48 in Feb. but had a heart attack due to clogged arteries. I take all the meds and exercise eat right and don't smoke. I am only waiting for my one year to be up so I can stop the plavix for the 10 days or so that I will need to be off. My PS is planning to do this in the hospital just to be safe so I don't think he has any worries. I know I don't. Do you think it would be best to go under, or stay awake? I'm really not sure about that part but I would rather be out. I want this!
Answer: Medical clearance before plastic surgery
I have operated on patients under general anesthesia with stents in place successfully. Depending on the type of surgery this has been performed in my office operating room or the hospital. The planning for surgery however must be coordinated with you medical doctors. In some cases they want anticoagulation in your system at all times. We have used injectable low molecular weight heparin to accomplish this and then placed the patient back on their previous medications after surgery. It is of paramount importance that your plastic surgeon coordinate your care with your cardiologist and general internist.
My response to your question/post does not represent formal medical advice or constitute a doctor patient relationship. You need to consult with i.e. personally see a board certified plastic surgeon in order to receive a formal evaluation and develop a doctor patient relationship.

CONTACT NOW Answer: Plan ahead for safety during surgery...... Safety should be everyone’s first priority when performing mommy makeover surgery. For this reason, every patient should undergo a comprehensive medical evaluation prior to surgery. When patients’ have pre-existing cardiac problems, it’s appropriate to modify the treatment plan. Surgery shouldn’t be performed without a cardiology consultation in someone who has coronary artery disease and coronary artery stents in place. Under these circumstances, surgery should be performed in a fully accredited inpatient surgical facility. This environment should provide all the necessary resources to handle an acute cardiac emergency. In this situation surgery should be performed under general anesthesia with a board certified anesthesiologist in attendance. When these steps are taken the margin of safety is increased dramatically.

Answer: Mommy Makeover Safety?
Thank you for the question.
Assuming you have your cardiologists' blessings ( after full cardiac workup), than having your surgery done by a well experienced board-certified plastic surgeon working with a board-certified anesthesiologist in the hospital is a right way to go. Generally most surgeons would do the procedure under generalize anesthesia.
Best wishes.

Answer: Clearance for Surgery
If you have previous cardiac issues, then you would need a complete cardiac workup and medical clearance from your cardiologist prior to surgery. Additionally your surgery should be done in a fully accredited hospital so that all resources would be available in the unlikely case of a cardiac issue during surgery. Additionally, should you have surgery, it should be done under anesthesia, performed by a board-certified anesthesiologist, with proper monitoring and post-op care plan. Plastic surgery is elective surgery and every precaution should be make to ensure your safety.
Good Luck.
