You Weren't Going for that Earthworm Look?

Michael A. Persky, MD answers: When do I contact my doctor if unhappy with Juvaderm results?

Help!! Had Juvederm yesterday and it doesn't look right!! Yesterday I had Juvederm Ultra Plus injections to my naso-labial area and the dermatologist added some in the crease that makes a parenthesis around my mouth one one side. Today it looks like I have an earthworm under my skin in that spot. It does not look natural. It appears that not enough Juvederm was injected in the area that meets the side of my nose. What should I do?? When doctors make an obvious mistake will they typically correct the mistake at no extra charge?

Hi Libby's Mom,

Sorry to hear about your Juviderm mis-adventure; hope that you haven't scared Libby.  I have found that after 24 to 48 hours the swelling and lumpiness of Juviderm should have resolved, or at least is significantly improved.

If things still don't look so good, I would see your physician and hear his/her advice.  We usually recommend massage, and sometimes will add more product to blend the areas.  If more product is used in my practice, the patient is charged only for the wholesale price of the product used.  If not much product is necessary to make the correction, then there is no charge.  Practices vary with their policy of corrections.

Unless you have a most noticeable deformity and/or have an important social event, I would wait another few days before considering Widase to dissolve excess Juviderm.  Good luck and be well, and hi to Libby.

Dr. P
