Lip Augmentation is an art form that must be mastered. The downside of poorly placed lip fillers is an unnatural looking lip augmentation that does not correlate with patterns of anatomic lip contour.

There are five elements to succesful lip augmentation. These should be discussed with your plastic surgeon prior to any lip augmentation are as follows:

  • Cupid's bow
  • Philtral columns (Right and Left)
  • Tubercle
  • Lateral Commissure correction
  • Right and Left High Points

The two safest products for lip augmentation on the market are Juvederm and Restylane. These two hyaluronic acid fillers are safe and temporary. They rarely cause nodularity or allergic reactions.

A: Prevelle Silk: The First Hyaluronic Acid Filler with Anesthetic in the US

I have been fortunate to use Prevelle Silk hyaluronic acid filler with lidocaine on a few of my patients. It is the first FDA approved hyaluronic acid filler available in the United States. The word "silk" aptly describes the product as it flows and fills very smoothly.

It is too early for me to judge how long it will last, but if it lasts as long or longer than Restylane and Juvederm, this "new kid on the block" will rapidly become the most popular hyaluronic acid filler.

Patients have been very pleased with the comfort of injection, and I appreciate not having to use dental blocks to fill the lips.
